We're living it right now...
"Apparently benign alien emissaries show mankind how to end the misery
of war, plague and famine. The Kanamits, nine-foot tall aliens, arrive on
Earth with one lofty goal: To Serve Man. They end war, they end famine.
They make the military wonder: what's the catch?"

Did they foretell that my eyes would go so bad I couldn’t read it?

Sometimes the predictions are too early, and sometimes they are a little too conservative, like this briefcase computer from"2001: A Space Odyssey"
this has all the functionality of a modern Smartphone.

I'd say it was more functional, recognizable dialer, real keybord, numerical keypad and room for a sammich or two. Oh where did we go wrong?

Well, in fairness 2001 was 14 years ago. Cell phones were bricks that only worked as phones and laptops were bulky and heavy, for the most part, unless you had a fortune to spend.

I don’t think we have replicants yet...

Well, for one thing smartphones don’t come with stewardesses in cute pink uniforms. Let’s start there!

funny story from the past. Had a friend from Big Stone Gap who really didn’t like yankees.
One day after seeing a photo of Jackie O with a pillbox hat, had this to say, “Huh... wonder how ol’ Jack got his wife to carry his spit cup around on her head.”
