You may think your dog has an irrational hatred of cats, but their instinct to chase felines out of their territory might be more reasonable than you think. Fossils have revealed the two species have a rocky past after the introduction of cats to the Americas had a devastating effect on the continent's species of wild dogs. In fact, it is thought that competition from cats caused up to 40 species of dog to become extinct in the region millions of years ago.

Dogs 'Can Trace Origins To Central Asia'

Neat.

I listen to Rush on a radio station out of Mississippi and I caught the news from there today on a break and they have a drought there and pet owners should be alert for roving packs of coyotes who will eat the pets.

There was a NatGeo or some such documentary on a couple of months back that studied a new breed of coyote that developed in the Northeastern US. It was a cross between a wolf and a coyote. The beasts were spreading across the country via the railway system. It was an interesting show.
