Here I go again, dragging you into a wee hours chat about music. But your track record is so good, that I had to turn to a real expert! :)
And I take it you've heard the clever sendup of the theme they use locally on the Hardline. I still chuckle every time I hear it.

If you really want to know anything about the ‘green acres’ theme then you really should try to get some sleep....
Just sayin’

Can't be sure myself but there are lots of musicians on this list :)

This is the Modern Music Ping List. Our topic is music from the 20th and 21st century, from Ravel and Shostakovich through to the Synth Pioneers and beyond.
Topic suggestions are always welcome, and pings to music-related threads are appreciated.
FReepmail or reply to this post to be added to or removed from this list.

Thanks...happening across the Trump performance of the theme brought back a lot of memories of
Green Acres. It was "must see" TV for me during my mid-20s. The cast of characters, especially Mr. Haney and Hank Kimball, was terrific. And the catchy theme is hard to forget even after all these years.
I figured if any people on the planet knew more about it, it would definitely be FReepers!

I think the original recording used a very low harmonica.
(Have a great photo of Eddie Albert with my grandfather. They had investment dealings years ago.)
To: re_nortex
Playing it in my head. Maybe a “treated piano”? Or harpsichord? Electric guitar, certainly. Harmonica.
To: Arthur McGowan
Predominantly electric guitar.

I didn't realize until just now that Eddie Albert died in 2005 at the age of 99. To many, he was Oliver Douglas but also was in 1962's The Longest Day.

A couple of months ago I saw The Wild One on TCM and one of the guys in Johnny’s gang was the guy who played Mr. Kimball on Green Acres. Cool, dad!

He was a gent. Met him when I was a young lass. Used to stay at my grandfather’s.

Predominantly electric guitar.Talk to me like I'm a four year old -- since that's about where I am when it comes to music. :)
Was that sound produced by a special electric guitar or was it "plucked" (is that the word?) in such a way that any ordinary guitar could make it? It also sounds like there's a xylophone somewhere in the mix to my admittedly tin ear.

Apparently its a sin to promote your television business when you don’t have presidential aspirations at the time.

You definitely hear this and it is played thru the programs.
Tombo Pocket Bass Harmonica: http://youtu.be/0i4h8s1GGPI
See BS got rid of GA as part of their ‘rural purge’ back in the day.
To: equaviator
Alvy Moore IMHO the funniest character on that show.
To: re_nortex
It IS ‘plucked’ and a very distinctive style as to the period guitar. Some FReeper could tell you.

Tombo Poket Bass HarmonicaWow! You really can learn everything here on FR, confirming why I posted the question here. The sound produced by that harmonica was used throughout the show in setup scenes but especially when good ol' Arnold Ziffel made his appearance.

Second the electric guitar (played by
Tommy Tedesco), and bass harmonica (
ref). Beyond that...?

Theere definitely is a xylophone, and the electric guitar has some
distortion on it.
