I didn't realize until just now that Eddie Albert died in 2005 at the age of 99. To many, he was Oliver Douglas but also was in 1962's The Longest Day.

It should be mentioned that not only was Eddie Albert a successful actor, he was also a charter member of the Greatest Generation.
He participated in the Pacific War and took part in the Invasion of Tarawa, which was a hairy-chested and horrendous affair.

I think the original recording used a very low harmonica. That would be my guess. The Beach Boys even used one on Pet Sounds around the same time (1967).
