Wallace: Everyone knew Wallace was a gotcha question interviewer. He brought that same insecurity to the debate. There was no doubt that every question he asked of a conservative, non-establishment candidate was an attack question. The question that shows the worst of Wallace was he actually invited Kasich to attack Trump. That was cowardly. He didn't have the guts to do what he wanted to do, no doubt due to some journalistic reserve he would purport to represent, but he then tried to triangulate Kasich into doing it for him. Kasich's refusal highlighted the truth about Wallace's cowardice
Kelly: Not just her voice, but her entire demeanor dripped sarcasm and superiority throughout the entire debate. The best example are her attacks on religion. Her attack on Kasich for a St Peter analogy, and her "God talks to you question" were all directed at believers who have stood up for their Christian faith. Cruz, Kasich, Walker, Carson, and Rubio were hit with what is disdain toward religious people who actually believe their religion. Apparently, they are viewed by Kelly with disdain. Mocking Kasich about 'invoking God' really sticks in my mind.
Baier: I suppose it's good to know that Trump won't support a lousy republican nominee, but to start a debate with a show of hands over what was an issue Trump had already declared his position on was an effort to have him back down or face rejection. So, the follow on question would have been "you flip flopped" if Trump didn't hold up his hand. It was an attack if Trump did hold up his hand. In other words, "Trump, have you stopped beating your wife." Baier created a partisan PRO-REPUBLICAN moment when he's supposedly neutral. His other questions were certifiably partisan.
The worst debate moderation ever.
“People say you suck. Why do you suck so bad?”
Trump was just on Hannity. He explained that he was using the 3rd party run as leverage against the establishment. Why didn’t the mods ask the other candidates if they would support Trump if he got the nomination? Trump is shrewd and wants to be treated fairly and with respect as any other candidate. It makes me sick they still call Huckabee and Bush Governor - they are EX governors, and both have been out of office many years.
NEVER BEFORE has a Party Loyalty Oath opened a Republican Debate...
This was scary to a lot of us, just imagine how the Left is going to play this.
FoxNews was not even professional. That is not to say any other network is. It makes it all the important to have principles and to evaluate using principles.
Trump should have said he’d be as supportive of the party nominee as Lisa Murkowski and Thad Cochran ever where.
Oh, stop with the moderators already! These things are performances, productions, theater...they make the rules and they make the money from advertising. If you want public broadcasting...try NPR. Better yet just get over it and evaluate the relative strengths/weaknesses of the candidates. They’re running for President, not chairman of some hoity-toity debating society.
I was disappointed that Cruz didn’t speak up. How can ANYONE take a loyalty oath from some ‘journalist’ with 2 seconds notice on a stage in front of millions? I would say no!
The questions are supposed to be hard. The answerer is asking to be the tip of America’s spear. They shouldn’t care if the questions are ‘fair” or not.
The moderators were awful. The were awful across the board, and if Chris Wallace said one more time “turn to so-and-so and tell him what you think”, I’d have shot the television.
I would have shot back, “no Chris, I’ll talk to this crowd and the people watching.” Kasich flatly refused to play his stupid game.
I got rid of cable about 3 years ago...after the last election...
I have not seen or heard FOX news since, and from what I saw tonight on a internet feed, they have not changed one iota from what they were in the last election.
They try to make good Television...they set up the debate to create some fires and a little smoke..
It’s all a game to them, to make ratings and money.
So what has changed?
I wanted one of them to ask, “Let’s have a show of hands. Take the pledge and raise your hand if you promise to dismantle the welfare state. Raise your hand if you promise to dismantle public education. Raise your hand if you promise to end fractional-reserve banking. Raise your hand if you promise to privatize Social Security? Health care. Raise your hand if you promise to revert to the gold standard.” And on and on.
I haven’t brought up ‘fair’. (Although there’s nothing wrong with fair.)
I have brought up cowardly, disdainful, and partisan.
The fox holes were trying hard to get a Rupurt Murdock bonus.
One more time:
From a VERY establishment reporter (Roll Call):
Matt Fuller @MEPFuller
Do I have to get a Tetanus shot if I agree with Trump that Fox, from the opening bell, was out to destroy him?
It was THAT blatant.
>> Kelly: Not just her voice, but her entire demeanor dripped sarcasm and superiority throughout the entire debate
For awhile now, I have been disillusioned with Kelly.
Yet another empty-headed infotainment “star”.
And what if Satan is the nominee, Mr Trump...are you honestly going to say you won’t vote for a fellow republican?
Moron Kelly will get hers.
Excellent quote, MrSmith.
