Hi,
I just went into our above ground pool; it is leaking from the bottom. The vinyl has appeared to thin and there are three small holes. My daughter is outside doing her best to plug from the outside with duct tape.
I am still in my suit and have removed my contacts... I have duct tape. Trying to call pool stores but keep getting voice mail trees.
Any ideas before the water completely drains???
bottome = bottom. Sorry.
The pressure is from the water, from the inside pushing out.
Do you have one of those flat bathtub stoppers... that might work for a bit.
RTVV silicon or caulk
dense foam under concrete or spent uranium block.
Make some sandbags (plastic garbage bags with some dirt would work in a pinch). Put each one over a hole. I may not stop the leak, but it should slow it down.
The first thing I would do is drain the water. Chances are you’ll need it dry to patch it effectively.
Very simple solution, you’ll wonder why you never thought of it yourself. Leaking from the bottom, right? Just tip the whole pool upside down, and I think it will quit leaking from what was the bottom.
Meanwhile, try the duct tape inside. No it will not stick, but water pressure may force it against the holes and slow the leak.
O, RTV on the INSIDE. IN the water. Get in and smear it around the leak area in quantity.
But you will be replacing the liner and the water.
You’ll need a vinyl pool repair kit. You can smear the adhesive on the patch and apply it to the submerged hole.
Nuke it
great idea! Let me check that out. Probably anything rubber would work..
Mark as best you can where the leaks are, then drain out the remaining water. Duct tape on the outside is pretty useless; the water is under too much pressure. Duct tape (or foil tape) on the inside at the points of leak would help, but as mentioned it should be dry when applied so it can stick.
Pool Emergency Kit

One of the most essential tool that any above ground pool owner should have is a container on Vinyl Cement and some extra vinyl strips.
You never know when something might puncture your pool, such as a branch from a tree or having a rock bullet through the pool wall from a lawn mower. Chances are that your local pool shop may not be open when it happens, and if so, would they have any of the patch equipment available?
I recently found that Lowes or Home Depot doesn’t carry any Vinyl Cement, or any type of adhesive that would work under water. Home Depot does carry some pool supplies, including a patch kit, but again they may not have it in stock, plus you would be paying a premium price.
At Central Pools in Framingham, you can get the Vinyl Cement for about $10 and they have extra vinyl patches samples that you can take for free. Leslie’s Pools only carries small patch kits and they don’t have the Vinyl Cement container.
I would recommend keeping these inside the house instead of in a garage or shed. I had an old patch kit but the vinyl cement had dried up. Just keep them so you know where they are in an emergency.
Another essential thing to have on hand is an extra pool hose. This can come in handy if your pool hose should suddenly spring a leak. We have encountered some leaks with our hoses and have had to replace them. This can happen when you use the same hose over many years.

Thanks!
I have some caulk... I’ll try it. First I’m going to go out and try with the bathtub stopper. brb
consider it a big bathtub or sink. lol
Sorry, bro but if the vinyl is thinning that’s all she wrote. It’s probably thinned-out everywhere. Possibly too much chlorine.
Yes.. excellent idea.
My husband is here now.
darn it. this pool is not old., but when I was cleaning it, I felt like the lower part of the vinyl was rough and not quite right.
