It really is amazing what kind of UN World Health goals can be met in countries that have majority Muslim populations and that have ostracized tobacco use.

They did a study back in the 70’s, and 80’s that proved that second hand smoke not only didn’t make you sick, in some cases it made people healthier because it built up their immune system.

It’s hard to get smokes in Turkmenistan...or anything else. There’s was an invitation from Turkmenistan about 10 years ago, give or take, to oil companies (for help with development) and diplomats (extra route to Afghanistan offered). The diplomats said no because of the lack of services.

As soon as their average income increases 10,000% and they get rid of all the muslims, I’ll consider moving there. NOT.

There’s also the studies that say smokers don’t get alzheimers or parkinsons. Funny that second hand smoke doesn’t provide the same protections

The Turkmen dictator Saparmurat Niyazov (d. 2006) banned all smoking in Turkmenistan in 1997 because he was forced to quit for his health.
In terms of sheer megalomania, this guy could have given lessons to Kim Jong Un.
