Ho hum. NASCAR brought its Camping World Truck Series to Eldora Speedway today, and it's like watching 300 lb women mud wrestle. In the search for "parity", NASCAR has absolutely ruined this sport with their silly rules.
Let it be known, THE ONLY EQUALIZER IN RACING IS POVERTY!
I have been involved with a few cars at the WORLD 100, know the track, stepped it off, etc. and this is a pitiful display. I feel sorry for those drivers having to force those machines around that wonderful track. Honestly, there are Street Stocks in the immediate vicinity of Bellfontaine and Sandusky that would run and hide from these clunkers, let alone the Late Models.
It is truly painful for me to watch those nose heavy, under powered (low compression and under carbureted), overweight, under tired and primitively (rear) suspended vehicles.
Your thoughts?
NASCAR changed forever once it became a big-time sport and expanded out of the South in the 1990s. It’s amazing how quickly and severely it has declined since it reached its peak about 10-12 years ago.
I understand it has been taken over by corporatism. Just like WWE.
And just like country music.
It’s still the most exciting and competitive NASCAR race of the year.
And that, sadly, says something about what has happened to the sport.
We attended the first 18 Brickyard 400s and were die-hard NASCAR fans until about five years ago. It became cookie-cutter drivers in cookie-cutter cars at cookie-cutter tracks winning the inevitable rigged green-white-checkers finish so they could give the same cookie-cutter speech in victory lane.
I miss the drivers who gave the sport some character like Ricky Rudd, Ward Burton, Bill Elliott, Michael Waltrip and Terry LaBonte. My son believes NASCAR died with Dale. I think he’s right.
I haven’t watched a race in a long tme.
Nice pic! That’s why I call people who drive 410 Sprints PILOTS instead of drivers.
Sprint cars are the rabid animals of the internal combustion world. 2 speeds, coast and redline.

I remember when Tony Stewart first came over from IRL, and the asked him about the differences. He said one of the biggest differences was the Driver’s Meetings. IRL had drivers from all over the world, and spoke many different languages so they had to have translators. At the NASCAR Driver’s Meetings everybody spoke English. Except Ward Burton. He speaks Ward.
I was surprised to learn that NASCAR is privately owned by a family. That might be a big part of the problem.
This is X-finity (Busch) series right?
The race there last year was kinda fun. It was interesting to see treads on the tires. A testing for possible rain racing in the future (Road course only).
NASCAR has been ripped away from it’s roots. They don’t understand why their revenues are dropping. Mr France’s idiot grandson’s desire to be all things PC, and bury where the sport came from is the reason. His Yankee liberal buddies ain’t replacing the “Rednecks” like he hoped.
Best dance with the one who brung ya.
Let’s go further back. Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Tim Richmond, Bobby Allison Cale Yarborough.
NASCAR is now Indy car without the balls or the speed.
Actually, NASCAR has been in the north for quite a while. NASCAR has been racing at Michigan since about 1970 and is the fastest track on the circuit with speeds as high as 220 mph entering turn 1. Jeff Gordon holds the record qualifying speed of 206.558 mph.
Everybody wrings their hands over restrictor plates when it seems simple to me. Michigan is only banked at 18 degrees and they slow down for the turns.
What are you smokin'?
Jeff Burton had the best explanation of his brother Ward:
“He grew up in the south side of the house.”
No. It’s those retarded trucks.
I lost interest about the time they stopped calling it Winston Cup. It hasn’t really been the same since around that time period. Who ever thought we would see freekin Japanese sedans on a Winston Cup oval. Blasphemy
It’s a promotion...
It makes some money for the track and gets fans who would normally not come to Eldora.
The reason that is remotely even possible on this dirt track is that it has a bit of a bank to it.
It’s all about the fun of racing so don’t take it so seriously.
A national series with pro drivers should not be painfully slow while not able to complete 8 laps wihout a caution.
I have seen higher speed go kart racing.
Tony Stewart owns Eldora. I was there in the Earl Baltes days. Attendance has never been a problem, other than being too full.
