The guy has been locked up in Mexico for years. El Chapo is an escaped prisoner.
What escaped prisoner on the run is MORE WORRIED about U.S. elections that are more than a year out... much less ever..., than disappearing off the radar? Attracting more attention would be counter to the counter to the escape plan.
Furthermore, why would El Chapo announce it on social media which would attract A LOT of attention, and would attract even more people coming after him when he is still on the run?
Something is not adding up here?

According to what I have read, Trump brought him up first, appropriately. The El-Mass-Murderer feels invincible because he has his own government backing him. In Mexico, he very well may be invincible. Drugs are that countries biggest export.
Surprised nobody has figured this out. It is easy.
Whatever you think of Trump, he has brought the illegal immigration and border issues to the fore. If he continues, the politicos will have to respond and likely act in some meaningful way. That would hurt the drug business.
So what is a drug kingpin who is used to being able to intimidate people including Mexican federal and local judges, police, military, and politicians into silence going to do? Try to intimidate Trump into silence.
Because it’s unregulated traffic over the border that allows the drugs to come in.

It’s not like he has been escaped for 2 years, everything is set up and Trump is now President.
Prisoners on the run only thing of one thing and that is to vanish.

It was reported on FOX news with john scott that el chap0 was sort of the robbin hood of mexico. In 2001 when he was arrested the people came out in the streets by the hundreds demanding that he be released. It is a different culture in Mexico, and, like Trump said, they are bringing their culture to the USA.

Well maybe. That would assume he has actually been locked up, and that anyone is actually looking for him. I doubt either of those things is true.
He is already back in charge of the cartel. The govt had to help him “escape” (thinly disguised release). El Chapo is not running from anyone in Mexico.
It would hurt the POLITICIANS pockets. They are all bought off with some of that money.

El Chapo is a POS but wealthy Drug Kingpin. He probably has an ego to match Trump’s. He’s playing a game with the Mexican govt. Rubbing their nose in his escape which their own people likely help in.
If Trump was smart he’d hire a merry band of Mercs to neutralize El Chapo a la Bin Laden with a big multi million dollar payoff. Then he could tweet I got Chapo. The Zetas would be happy so no problem from them. :-)

Because if anything terrible ever happens to Trump, and it can be traced back to El Chapo, El Chapo and the Mexican government will see the real hidden wrath of the American people suddenly erupt.
Yes. Illegal Mexicans and El Chapo's people, especially those El Chapo people working secretly in the United States, will be the first to see how much the American people can be outraged when they are pushed too far, such as someone like El Chapo physically attacking Trump.
I believe this: Even many Americans who don't like Trump will be outraged.
