The items for trade during my SHTF very often changed value, and some of them became unavailable for some period of time, just to suddenly show up again much more expensive.
Yes, situation in the city dictated that, but also people, the black market lords made this happen. The whole situation was always changing where and if you can find what you were looking for.
Some of the items that were circulating in the city were completely new to everyone, one of the reasons was that all sorts of stuff from humanitarian aid was coming to the city through different channels and from all different parts of the world.

It is best if you really have to trade for nothing. Prepare well. Trading requires you out and vulnerable.
It sure feels like it. Many seem to think something is going to happen in Sept. of this year. Where can I go to stock up on powdered eggs? (halfway joking about the eggs)
And people then know what you have. OTOH, if you aren't out and vulnerable then people wonder why.
I've been thinking that for awhile - used to think it would be just before the 2016 elections, but don't think we'll last that long.
Many Christian believers have a "feeling" about September - maybe it's discernment provided by the Holy Spirit - not sure but have ramped up preps this summer.

I am sorry that I accidently posted to you earlier. I meant to post to someone else but the site you gave me was great.
If you go outside your house, blend in with the same type clothing others are wearing, don't look out of place with spiffy, well pressed clothes if there is no power.
Here's another tip from Selco from some time ago. It was meaningful to me because I hadn't thought of it. He said if you need to go outside after dark, even in your yard, you don't want others to know you are there, so have a tiny light you turn on and off only when you need to know where you are in the yard or area where you are.
I had great flashlights that would light up a large area, but had no tiny light. I fixed that by buying cheap pen lights like doctors/nurses have to check tracking of the eye. There is a clip on these pen lights and when you press that clip, the tiny light is there; take your finger off the clip, the light is gone.
One press on the clip gives a weak light but you will know where you are with just that quick bit of light. These are sold several on a card at Amazon and they are inexpensive.
Powdered eggs are on sale at Sportsman’s warehouse if you have one near you. Powdered chickens are harder to find.

That’s a good thing to have. I have a tiny lite that is attached to my key chain. When I am in the yard, I can generally see well enough with the moon light and the various neighbors porch lights/outdoor pole lights.
However, when I get to the door, it’s a darker area, and I can’t see the keyhole, hence the pen lite, but I never thought of it from that perspective either. I’ll have to check out those ones you are talking about, and get a few so we can have them if needed.
