American business magnate, Donald Trump said in his announcement to run for President on Tuesday, that he will levy punitive taxes on America’s second largest automaker, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) if the company continues with its $2.5 billion expansion plans in Mexico, which he said will cause thousands to lose their jobs in the US.
Referring to “Ford’s head” – likely the company CEO Mark Fields – as someone he knows, Mr. Trump said he will call him to share the “bad news”.

Now they're talking about what Trump actually is saying.
I think however, this sounds to me like industry apologetics, trying to say "leave us alone to send US jobs overseas".

Apparently this is not a joke. Trump wants to be Emperor Trump and give and take favors based on his distorted economic views. What a dope. Frankly I trust Ford a lot more.
Mr. Trump did not say he would ‘block’ them from doing this. Unlike our current crop in DC, DT is not a tyrant.
He will engage in hard-nosed negotiation, which will include tariffs, until they realize Tennessee is better than Mexico.
Trump never indicated Ford’s freedom to locate where ever they think is best for business. He’s just going to make the lower 48 a desirable option again.
What about Mercedes, Nissan, GM, Fiat-Chrysler, VW and Audi? Why is Trump picking on Ford when everybody’s there? Not cutting him in on sweetheart deals?
Well seeing how Obama does absolutely anything he wants, I don’t see why Trump can’t as well. Just run as a Democrat.
Anyone expecting one man, one person, to save this mess is delusional.
One man can’t do the job that over half of the American population won’t seem to do. Why is that? Our minds know we are in death throes, but our bodies are paralyzed. This is fatal.
We are on a treadmill that is leading us to misery and disaster and the thing won’t stop.
I think more than half of Americans agree with Mr. Trump on this, and on many issues.
Both parties however, are completely at the moment controlled by the “sell out America” groups in both parties.
Trump will move the dial on these topics. I’m not sure how much yet, but he’s a very strong voice on the side of rebuilding America.
We shall see.

The difference is Trump wants to return America to her rightful place in the world.
Democrats want to bury America once and for all.
The Donald never said he and he alone was going to right this ship. He had said many times he will put in the right people in the right positions, and THEY will turn this thing around.
Donald Trump is good medicine and speaks the truth. If he comes down on Ford he will have to do with the same with the Nips and Koreans. Do they produce in Mexico to sell here??
When the first primary votes start coming in in February, look for the Republicans to stay on the treadmill. They won’t get off unless Mitch and Boehner give them permission first.
That’s not a meaningful comparison, not by a long shot.

Uhhh...because it's new production facilities being moved from the US. Because Ford is the US success story getting through the recession on its own. Because companies wouldn't be leaving if anyone in DC were trying to write responsible legislation to keep them here.
Trump's playing the correct tune here. The DC crowd is passing trade bills to send more jobs overseas. Trump is talking about how to keep good jobs in the US.

DETROIT — Mexico has become the most attractive place in North America to build new automobile factories, a shift that has siphoned jobs from the United States and Canada, yet helped keep car and truck prices in check for consumers.
In the past two years, eight automakers have opened or announced new plants or expansions in Mexico. In April alone, Toyota announced a new plant in Guanajuato to build the popular Corolla, work now done in Canada, while Ford unveiled plans for Mexican engine and transmission factories.
Low labor costs and fewer tariffs are the swing factors. A worker in Mexico costs car companies an average of $8 an hour, including wages and benefits. That compares with $58 in the United States for General Motors and $38 at Volkswagen's factory in Tennessee, the lowest hourly cost in the country, according to the Center for Automotive Research, an industry think tank in Ann Arbor, Mich. German auto workers cost about $52 an hour.
Mexico also trumps the United States on free trade. It has agreements with 45 countries, meaning low tariffs for exporting globally. That, along with low labor costs, convinced Audi to build an SUV factory in the state of Puebla. The German automaker will save $6,000 per vehicle in tariffs when it ships a Q5 to Europe, compared with building the same vehicle in this country, says Sean McAlinden, chief economist at the Center for Automotive Research.
Audi also sells the Q5 in the States, where tariffs on cars built in Mexico were dropped under the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Ford got a huge benefit from avoiding the bailout. It’s probably why their trucks are #1. Pickup buyers are pretty savvy about these things. Someone like Trump could be a gentle reminder of where their recent is grounded.
