And after a conference, the other umps upheld the damn call. I realize it's just a baseball game but this kind of incompetence really pisses me off.

This is another reason I hate sports. It’s a fricking game.

When the runner is tagged and the tagger drops the ball in the process, the runner is safe. Agreed: a stupid call.

Bad call. But the manager only succeeds in making himself seem foolish.

The “stripper theme” music coming from the PA system is pretty funny.

“”Frisco RoughRider”””

Sounds like the stage name for a gay porn actor.

The catcher never had control of the ball.
The runner stayed in the baseline
The runner touched the plate, and then went back and re-touched the plate.

The umpire should be fired.
The other umps should be fired.

The call was so bad that I can only surmise that the home plate ump was paid off. The conference with the other umpires was a decision on how to split the bribe, not tto discuss the merits of the call.

Bad for baseball.

It looked like the ump was pointing to the runner’s hand - is it possibe the call was made because he thought the runner illegally used his hands to try to make the catcher lose possession of the ball?

It’s entertainment. It’s the manager’s JOB to go through those histrionics after a terrible call.

LOL reminds me of an old sports writer in Boston that wrote:

Baseball is not life or death, but the Red Sox are.

“If a whole bat is thrown into fair territory and interferes with a defensive player attempting to make a play, interference shall be called, whether intentional or not.”

Here might be the reason:

Rule 6.05(h) -

A batter is out.... If a whole bat is thrown into fair territory and interferes with a defensive player attempting to make a play, interference shall be called, whether intentional or not.

Could it be that the batter was called out, not the runner?

Of course they upheld the call, they ALWAYS uphold the call. Baseball really needs to get the manager temper tantrum out of the game. It’s boring, it’s stupid, and it’s never accomplished anything other than provide fodder for blooper collections.
