A Virginia woman said she is considering legal action against Petco after she says her Golden retriever died while in the care of a store's grooming services.
Allison Marks told ABC News today she dropped off 2-year-old Colby at a Petco in Midlothian, Virginia, early Friday morning and was told he'd be finished around noon. Marks said she started worrying when she didn't hear from the groomers by 1 p.m., so she called and was told to go to a local animal clinic.

First off, I have to say, accident. Terrible accident, and maybe someone was really negligent.
OTOH, I have to ask - “drying unit”?
Just what are these things? Chambers?
Seriously, all the dog handlers at shows I knew and even the groomers I knew recently, as well as I, dried a dog in a CRATE - a fully-open grated crate, with a blow-drier outside. Professionals usually had what were called “ducks” because of the shape thanks to their built-in stand format.
I cannot see drying a dog in a closed chamber.
If not that, I cannot see how he would die because of a drier, unless it was a really, really tight crate butt up against a blow-drier.
My best German Shepherd (20 years dead) never put her head out the window. She often liked to nose up to it, but was too smart to stick out. I’m sure she didn’t like things getting in her eyes, much less the possibility of Moslem punishment.
I agree with you.
And precious few have spent the effort and money on a single dog as I have the last 12 years, by necessity. (I could have sued the breeder by these litigious standards - totally imperfect dog with lots of health problems.)
If you ever had a German Shepherd, or any dog with a serious undercoat, you’d know they don’t really dry for HOURS upon hours even in the heat or dry air, even after a good rub-down and some cursory blow-drying.
When our two dogs go to petsmart to get groomed they are dried using a blow dryer..that’s it, no drying cage just a blow dryer..hearing stories like this breaks my heart should never have happened..poor Colby RIP little fella
Bochy gets towel dried. If it’s nice, he goes outside, if it’s cold he goes in his bed in front of the fire.
Good for you. I assume your dog is a real sweetheart.
Maybe she’s just a really smart dog.

Very short life...
Good thing about Dobes.
Wet a microfiber cloth and buff them clean.
Ten minutes, glossy shine.
No baking necessary.
She was. It’s been a year since she didn’t quite make it to 12, and had to go on my mom’s birthday instead of her own the next day. Vets and groomers LOVED her.
LOL! You and Mel Gibson are terrible!
Exactly my reaction.
Just awful.
My dogs have no idea what hanging out windows feels like.
Nor will they ever.
My remaining Ibizan Hound came down with severe corneal ulcers when she was a little over 1 year old and I will not ever risk any dog suffering what she did.
It was *horrible* and the pain must have been unbearable.
Despite going to a dog eye specialist, she still has problems with them, 8 years later and requires very expensive eye drops, twice a day.
Why anyone would even consider risking such a thing for their own dog, is beyond me.
So what if they “love it”?
They might “love” running in traffic, too.
So I should I let them?
I often feel like no one is listening, when all I want to do is make sure dogs have good, happy and healthy lives.

Interesting seeing the weasel words from Petco.
They, and any entity from large to small need to realize you DON’T have weeks, or even days for “the facts to come out” or “a through investigation”. That is 20the century thinking.
You have *ONE* news cycle (12 hours at most) to get *ALL* the facts out, or everything possible will be construed against you in the worst way.
Police shooting, pet death, sex scandal, the idea that the world is going to wait days, or weeks to find out “what really happened” is as dead as disco: all the facts, NOW or guilt will be presumed by pretty much everyone on the internet.
I still shake my head at the companies, politicians and other entities that just don’t get it- 2,3 hours max to get ALL the facts into the public domain or your brand is forever crap, no matter what the best investigation in the world shows two weeks later.
It takes two days for our Pug to dry completely.
