I'm not buying Emma Stone as an Asian-American in Aloha
EW ^ | May 29, 2015

Accepting Emma Stone as an Asian-American in Aloha requires a certain suspension of disbelief and no small amount of magical thinking. In the Hawaii-set romantic comedy-drama, she portrays Allison Ng: an aggressively peppy Air Force fighter pilot of Chinese-Hawaiian-Swedish decent who falls for an existentially angst-y military contractor played by Bradley Cooper.

But in order to process this idea of Stone as a bi-racial character, as someone whose genetic lineage can be traced back to the Middle Kingdom by way of Polynesia, you must first get past the obvious stumbling blocks: her alabaster skin and strawberry blond hair, her emerald eyes and freckles—past the star’s outwardly unassailable #Caucasity—if only because the movie hammers home her cultural other-ness in just about every other scene.

Well if Fantastic Four Human Torch can be black and Nick Fury can be black, but do not mention Mickey Rooney's role in Breakfast at Tiffany's

I haven't Heard, If the Human Torch is going to be Black.

But Sue Storm (his SISTER) Is still white right?

So in the new movie are they not Brother and Sister anymore?

is this how it happens. the whole country focuses on nonsense or insanity (gay marriage) or their group’s supposed rights while the country burns.
non existent recovery, trading enemies for deserters, making nuke deals with terrorist countries, 19 trillion in debt, and they worry about this nonsense.

It's definitely a BIG stretch.

This actress was more convincing as having part Hawaiian heritage...

I like Emma Stone but if this is the role, casting her was silly.

And isn't Ng a Vietnamese name?

“And isn’t Ng a Vietnamese name? “
I was just going to post that. Ng is a Vietnamese name. Pronounced “Ing.”

I’ve heard that in the remake of “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” the character portrayed by Sidney Poitier will be played by Rosie O’Donnell. /sarc

Cedric the Entertainer as Ralph Kramden.

Last year’s Annie.

Hollywood thinks the audience will believe/accept anything they put out.

Too many do.

Nobody complained when Peter Sellers played the roll of Dr. Fu Manchu!

Ugh. A waste of two hours plus the time getting there and back and the tickets

Incoherent.

No distinguishable theme

No story line

Ridiculous characters

Well, Win Ng, of Taylor & Ng, was of Chinese extraction.

Just sayin', since my ex ended up with the Taylor & Ng wok.

My conjecture:

When Hollywood (movies and tv) cast different racial characters in love situations, for example, Hollywood is actually presenting them as non-racial.

Nearly every TV series has at least one interracial ‘involved’ couple, but there is no mention of race.

Ng is not really Vietnamese but Ngo is. Before they started changing spellings it was usually spelled “Eng” for earlier immigrants.

I have no problem with her or the idea of imperfect races in acting situations.

I have a good friend that is 1/2 Vietnamese, 1/2 Scandinavian.

His name is Swedish, his body is larger than most Asians, but his face is very Asian.

None of us friends pays any mind, day to day. Great fellow, married a sharp, very conservative, beautiful younger gal.
