Nine people were killed and 18 people were injured Sunday in a motorcycle gang gunfight outside a restaurant in Waco, Texas.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton described the incident to local media, thusly, It is one of the most violent scenes Ive seen in my 34 years as a police officer in Waco.
Yikes! It was an apparent bloodbath at Twin Peaks, the name of the restaurant. Police recovered over 100 weapons from the surrounding area, including chains, clubs, knives and guns. And at least 165 people were arrested, the majority of which have ties to five different biker gangs. Thankfully, no civilians or police were injured or killed.
Needless to say, it was quite the crime scene. And it got me thinking, what can one learn from this scenario? Well, here are five lessons to take away:
1. Avoid Large Groups of Nefarious Characters
Based on reports, it appeared that the establishment was a known biker hangout. And that the dispute may have been over a parking spot. Maybe its just me, but I dont want to go to a place where one is bound to get killed over a stupid parking space.
What I mean to say is that, yeah, Ive watched the television show Sons of Anarchy. And yeah, motorcycle gangs are cool in theory (i.e. in cinema, on TV) but that doesnt mean I want to be around one in real life. Same holds true for mobsters or any other group of shady individuals. When possible, steer clear of folks with a bad reputation. If you know where they congregate, dont go there. Go to Applebees instead.
2. Leave Before the Trouble Starts
Duh! This is a no-brainer that goes hand and hand with number one. Assuming you dont know the area and end up going to a place that feels off (your spidey senses start tingling), leave.
Think about it. Pretend for a moment youre eating lunch with your family at Twin Peaks and all of a sudden hordes of bikers pull up to the restaurant. Do you stick around to see what happens? What kind of food they order? Nope. Not a chance. Perhaps on a normal day or by the numbers, 9 out of 10 times, nothing will happen. But do you really want to be around for that 10th time? Dont think so. Grab the check from the waitress, a few to-go boxes and skedaddle.
3. Assume Everyone is Armed
Maybe Im weird, but I go through life assuming almost everyone is armed. Not babies, but everyone else. Its a prepare for the worse but hope for the best type of mentality. So, if Im in a crowded situation, Im always concerned about (a) Who is behind me? and (b) Where are the exits?
If there are people behind me, chances are theyre going to beat me to the draw because I cant see them. Therefore, I want to know how many there are at my six and if/where I can situate myself to minimize exposure to them. Just makes sense. Get to a place were you can hopefully see everyone. Now, its not always possible, but when it can be done, do it.
With respect to the exits, you never know when a situation will pop off, so to speak. But when it does, it often happens very quickly, in which case you want to move out of the danger zone or line of fire as fast as possible. Without knowing exactly where and how far away the exits are, this will be a problem. Always search for and find the exits.
4. Numbers Matter
Look, I may have a handgun on me with a couple of extra magazines, but in a situation where there are hundreds of people with various weapons, Im not only outgunned, Im outnumbered. Im already starting at a great disadvantage. In this scenario, flight over fight is ultimately the best strategy for surviving.
5. Dont Get Involved.
If someone at the grocery store or at a restaurant takes my parking space, I might bitch to my girlfriend about it in the privacy of our vehicle but I ultimately let it go. I dont let the minor offense ruin my day. Overall, I tend to ignore rude people. Life is so much better this way.
Id highly suggest everyone adopt this mindset. Ignore rudeness. Dont get involved in a confrontation over something trivial, e.g. a parking spot. Ask yourself this, are you willing to die for it? If not, let it go and dont get involved.
Conclusion
So there you have it, five lessons one can learn (or help be reminded of) from the biker gunfight in Waco, Texas: avoid sketchy people, leave before trouble starts, assume everyone is armed, assess the relative size of the threat, and dont get involved unless you absolutely have to.
Avoid Breasteraunts like Twin Peaks.
I guess during his 34 years he missed the Branch Davidian massacure there in Waco.
Posted this a couple of weeks ago on another thread:
My wife and I ride. A couple of years ago we were in a bar and grill frequented by motorcycle enthusiasts of all kinds. Noticed an outlaw mc member by himself at the bar. A while later he walked outside with his cellphone, 20 minutes later there were 15-20 more (plus their women)in there raising hell. I looked at my wife and said ok, time to go. The next day I was doing a routine safety check of my bike (that was less than a year old) and discovered a nice deep slice across the tread of the front tire. I probably ran something over on the road but I’ve always wondered if one of them did it while it was parked outside that establishment the day before.
The writer can’t count, there’s only 4 numbered items on the list. Also, the writer needs to add a 6th item: don’t believe everything you hear/read and only about half of what you actually see. There’s plenty of other info out there on this incident and the writer effectively ignores most of it, taking only the approved version from police sources. I’m no advocate for violence among/between groups of any kind but there’s more than meets the eye to this incident. Some of it has even appeared here on FR.
The 5th one is there. The re-posting is mis-formatted.
#1 Unless black don’t dare gather and try to even jaywalk.
Well shoot, they accused that church of just about everything. How much of it was true and how much of it was to cover up how incredibly incompetent and just plain evil the ATF is?
I am not going to be in any hurry to come to any conclusions. Let the evidence speak. Let the litigation begin and let us see what comes out of discovery.
There is the following sobering news:
Police Officers Who Shot at Two Innocent Women 103 Times Won’t Be Fired
The eight Los Angeles police officers who shot at two women over 100 times will not lose their jobs. They won’t even be suspended. They’ll just get some additional training.
They’ll need it, since the shooting happened at the height of the manhunt for cop-killer Christopher Dorner, when police mistook two women delivering newspapers in a blue Toyota Tacoma pickup truck for one man hellbent on revenge in a charcoal Nissan Titan pickup truck and shot at them 103 times. One of the women, who was 71 at the time, was hit twice in the back. The second woman was hit by broken glass. I would say those cops should get some training in target practice, but then it’s probably best for innocent newspaper carriers that they don’t.
Yesterday, a commission found that the officers violated department policy when they thought the sound of a newspaper hitting the pavement was a gunshot and opened fire on two women who were, again, doing absolutely nothing wrong except driving a truck that didn’t even look like the one they believed their suspect to be in.
The officers faced suspension or even firing, but police chief Charlie Beck elected instead to let them all return to duty once they undergo some additional training, according to a memo obtained by the AP. ...
The most prominent accusation was made by a teen girl, in a Congressional hearing.
But, I subsequently read that she was verifiably NOT at the Branch Davidian compound during the alleged sexual assault.
Proverbs talks about this. ;-)
#5 said dont get involved. Its there
3. Assume Everyone is Armed
Maybe Im weird, but I go through life assuming almost everyone is armed. Not babies, but everyone else.
In an ideal world, everyone WOULD in fact be armed. Since Texas has high rate of gun ownership, that's why crime is lower here than in liberal areas like Detroit, Seattle, Boston, Baltimore, New York and San Francisco. That's more proof to the logic that indeed an armed society is a polite society. It's simple: people mind their manners here in the Lone Star state because, odds are, the person next to you is armed.
Perhaps this might deserve its own thread? Useful data...
There wasn't any. The purpose of the child abuse accusations was to enflame people against them exactly as demonstrated by the previous post. Makes it easier to murder over a hundred people on live TV apparently.
You mean where the cult that was abusing children?
Oh my gosh.Really? I’ll bet you think there were automatic weapons recovered too? And that there was no weapons fired from the helicopters? And the BATF was not scheduled for a budget review shortly after the raid? And I could go on and on. Geez man, do some research.
Oh and if you see more than one cop in your general location quickly, quietly and with a grand display of meekness accompanied by humility unass the area.
Double /S they are only there to protect and serve they would never shoot indiscriminately putting innocent lives in danger.
It was an ATF raid.
