My Dad's been experimenting with ways to prevent squirrels from accessing his bird feeder. Mounting it in another place would be too easy.
Any other ideas?
so rocky the flying squirrel lives?
Bkmrk.
Look up Droll Yankee squirrel proof feeders. They work for us. They have a Flipper, whipper and tipper I think they are called.
I admit...I enjoy watching them..They have chewed a hole under the roof, torn down a gutter and chewed on my cable line. I just keep on having the repairs done...lately none needed.
I like them better when they leave my house alone and only engage in bird feeder robbing. LOL
I have a feeder on a pole which the tree rats would master the pole, I tried lard and other ideas then I made a funnel shaped cone out of sheet metal just like the ones they use on ships to keep the rats from boarding them via the lines holding the ships to the docks. I mounted it the pole with hose clamps on the top and bottom of the cone and haven’t had a tree rat in the feeder again.
The whole family has been laughing all day about those videos.
At first I would go on the front porch and use the pellet gun but they got wise. So crank open the kitchen window and poke the barrel out.
I shot one sitting on the fence, he just fell over, only to hear a voice say : "He look like he been shot"......so ...had to stop that.
What about squirrelbirds?
Please thank your father, on my behalf, for his service. Thanks. God bless.
I must say I enjoyed watching that video. Just may get one of those. The little rats drive me crazy.
I have an indoor cat who is allowed outside on a tether. The squirrels have been super aggressive this year with my feeders, so I have actually allowed him out to chase them a few times. They come back, but it makes me feel good to see them chased away.
Ours are not that tame. We target shoot around here so they know we have guns.
I like and feed squirrels. I hate feral cats and refuse to wake up to dead animal babies laid out at my door.
We have squirrels and rabbits in our yard in the middle of Houston like you would not believe. We don’t eat them we just watch them.
Thanks, will do.
Ours was large, and rectangular. This was about 20 years ago, and I can’t find a pic of it now. But the squirrels around here are the fluffy Eastern Gray ones.
We’re up very high now, and aren’t bothered with squirrels; we feed the birds on the ground, on the balcony. But I like the way the ‘Yankee Flipper’ works, and will remember it :-)
We’re late putting out our hummer feeder. Usually goes up on tax day - the hummingbirds in our area are here from about April 15 to Sept. 15. We get a lot of action from those pugnacious fellows...

We live in an area with several indy grain & feed stores, and they have it as regular stock.
Not sure about your situation....but the national chain Agway....may be in your area.
