Astronomy Picture of the Day -- NGC 2440: Pearl of a New White Dwarf
NASA ^ | May 17, 2015 | (see photo credit)

Explanation: Like a pearl, a white dwarf star shines best after being freed from its shell. In this analogy, however, the Sun would be a mollusk and its discarded hull would shine prettiest of all! In the above shell of gas and dust, the planetary nebula designated NGC 2440, contains one of the hottest white dwarf stars known. The glowing stellar pearl can be seen as the bright dot near the image center. The portion of NGC 2440 shown spans about one light year. The center of our Sun will eventually become a white dwarf, but not for another five billion years. The above false color image was captured by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995. NGC 2440 lies about 4,000 light years distant toward the southern constellation Puppis.

Since its NASA, its already public domain. So, that could be my next e-book cover.

What happened to the giant star that exploded creating our sun, solar system and metal?
Is that too a White Dwarf floating somewhere?

Does that make a super nova a raw oyster? No hot sauce necessary!

A type II supernova (it sez here) results from the precipitous collapse of the iron accumulated at the stellar core, when the mass of it reaches about 1.4 times the mass of our Sun. There's an enormous release of energy, which produces heavier elements through fission, and along with the lighter elements from the originating red giant, this material gets blown off by the shock wave and the energy (lasting weeks or months) generated by the iron core collapse. The wave of material goes off in all directions in a more or less spherical manner, with the lighter stuff accelerated to higher velocities. Supernova debris waves can have serious consequences to the innocent bystanders, such as the people of Earth, and given the distances involved, they arrive without warning. The remaining core material from the supernova either turns into a neutron star, or a black hole, depending on the mass.

A “White Dwarf” is that some kind of Macro-aggression?

Star-privilege?

;’) And why “Milky Way”? The reason is obvious — white privilege!

Yes, it’s probably some kind of galactic-aggression.
