Woman steals $10k worth of mini alcohol bottles
An aeroplane cleaner working at JFK Airport has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than 1,400 miniature bottles of booze worth US$10,000.
Juanette Cullum, 48, of Brooklyn, allegedly stole the alcohol over a three-year period from American Airlines planes in Terminal 8, reports the New York Post.
Police were alerted to the thefts by an airport security guard, and uncovered 1,429 miniatures bottles hidden in a wardrobe at Cullums home.
On average, the 50ml bottles have an RRP of US$7 each on flights.
But while the loot is estimated to worth around thousands of dollars, a source told the news site that Cullum was not intending to sell the bottles just hoarding them.
Cullum also allegedly pilfered seven iPads, two laptops, 19 Kindle tablets and various toiletries from passengers, worth an estimated US$5,000.
She was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property on Friday at Queens Criminal Court but released on her own warrant.
Cullum faces up to seven years in prison if found guilt.
The news site also highlighted that in 2012, 18 employees at JFK were caught stealing US$750,000 worth of miniature bottles from planes, while in 2003 more than 400,000 miniatures including brands such as Dewars, Courvoisier and Bacardi were stolen from American Airlines flights.
Juanette Cullum apparently never saw Dean Wormer's advice to a challenged college student. Oh well, she'll be going from AA to ... AA
Ping
These aren’t the 187 ml bottles that United sells for 7 bucks ? No wonder they are coming out of bankruptcy. lol. One more reason to travel ANA for the unlimited amount of free liquor...
“Those weren’t complimentary???”

Sad, embarrassing, and in a mean way, funny. I doubt if she was just hoarding all those items to just stare at them, or take repeated inventories. A few bottles a month to her neighbors would provide a nice supplement to the rent for a long while. Article does not say how the security guard found out. Maybe she stopped giving him little whiskeys for free, so he snitched.
That’s come to just shy of $7 a bottle!
$7 each may be what they sell them for on airplanes, but you can buy them for around a dollar in many stores and wholesale they cost a fraction of a dollar. How do I know? I have strange hobbies and while I traveled all over this country in my job I would buy mini-bottles whenever I found a good deal. I have about 15,000 bottles of all kinds and never paid more than $1.25 for any of them, and I never bought anything less than top shelf booze. What can I say? We all do some crazy things.
Interesting :-) I bet they hold their value better than paper dollars too!
She might have a little drinking problem

The airlines are charging $7 for less than 2 oz of booze?! There is more than one thief here.
Her shirt is quite the statement.
If there is ever a TEOTWAWKI event, I might get hungry but at least I'll be clean.
She probably went too far, and clipped one too many liquor locks on the catering carts.
A bottle or two per flight isn’t going to be missed, and tired stew crews often “forget” to put the locks on, and record the numbers at the end of a long night.
For real.
Where was it I read a tongue-in-cheek report that someone robbed a movie theater of $1000.00. He got away with three large popcorns, 7 boxes of Junior Mints, and five large drinks.
Idiot. Johnny Cash had a better idea. After taking one piece at a time, at least he had a car.
