last one:
Walk into Grand Central Station and just look around.
Ride the ferry to Governor’s Island just for the view of the city. Or Staten Island Ferry.
AMEN! Last year I went to NYC for the first time...ended up there by accident...couldn’t get my jaw off the floor for an hour! Times Square was the same- again, an accident... walked up out the subway and just froze in awe...
Union Square was also a great surprise...lol—
We literally got on the subway and just explored...first night there- we got lost because my sis lives in Queens, we only knew how to get home using the 7 line and it got shut down - fire somewhere- LOL! once we lived through that and got home around 1:30 am— I was game for most anything
Don't know how I forgot this. Definitely - very impressive building. (Just please don't do it during rush hour)
If I may add...at rush hour (5pm). Watch the crowds fill up the place. The escalators up to the Met Life building are amazing. Like ants.
Then go down stairs and have dinner at the Oyster Bar (or maybe just a bowl of chowder).
and if you are there on a week end and the weather is nice, a walk in Central Park to see NYers in full bloom.
make sure you have a NY bagel and a slice of pizza from a street window pizzaria. The best!!!!
I totally forgot to mention that...
Grand Central Station is stunning.
I took my 10 year old son on a surprise trip to a Yankees game in the old stadium 15 years ago. We took the train up from Philly where we were visiting my folks in the ‘burbs. Came into Grand Central then switched to the subway. A cop asked if we were going to the Yankees game and my son’s eyes got big as baseballs when he put two and two together. It was a fantastic day. Have fun!
That.
It's free and the ceiling is awesome. Make sure to find the whispering arches/room or whatever it's called. You whisper into one end and your son can hear you at the other.
While at Grand Central Station, you must walk through the public library building across the street. Last time I was there, they had an Automat exhibit.
