'Rocky Horror' TV Remake In Works At Fox With Gail Berman & Kenny Ortega

As we mark the 40th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Fox is prepping a remake of the cult classic. The two-hour taped event special, which is in development with a cast-contingent order, is executive produced by Gail Berman of The Jackal Group; the 1975 movie's producer Lou Adler; and Kenny Ortega, who is set to direct and choreograph. Fox 21 TV Studios is producing.

One of my favorites. Would never see a remake. Who could replace Tim Curry? Meatloaf? A classic.

Because they are out of ideas, and bean counters have determined that a "reimagining", or a "remake" or a "reboot" of an established idea will get them a MINIMUM amount of profit, just on the name of the title alone. All they have to do to make "$40 million in profit is to make a movie for $40 million, do a $20 million ad budget, and that'll equal $100 million world wide.

I think this is tantamount to buying rights to titles, which come along with 90% of the rest of the movie--if they want it. (story, characters, script, etc.)

And of course it will be a chance to subjugate/fundamentally the "old culture"s ideas by "diversifying" the cast and "hip hopping" the musical selections. So when future generations think of "Rocky Horror", they will think of the one with Quetzalcoatl Watson, (or what ever her name is from the Annie remake) or whomever is the big draw among the illegals and the publik skoolers.

Spent an entire summer dressed up as one of the dancers doing the time warp. Every Saturday at midnight. I was 15 years old. My best friend dressed up as Frankenfurter. Had the hottest girlfriend.

There was no gay stuff going on. No drugs. Just a good time by good kids.

Is it because aliens from Planet Transexual, a male character who seduces both a husband and wife (accidental homosexuality) and and Transvestite doctor are no longer considered horrors by the art crowd?
