Do you need to crank your home network to warp speed? This model of Star Trek's original Starship Enterprise hides a surprisingly practical secret: It's a functioning Wi-Fi access point.
Even better, this nerdy DIY creation by Germany-based Trekkies Christoph Kauch and Rol Schwarz uses mostly off-the-shelf parts. So if you're in the market for a way to extend your home network and are willing to shell out a few more Federation credits than usual, you too can create a Starship Enterprise that doubles as your door to the World Wide Web.

I got a lot of interest when I started a thread the other day about the Star Trek Continues webseries and others, so for all you Trekkies out there, here's another ST-TOS thread for you lot. :)
They have begun showing it weekdays at 3 P.M. Central time on METV.
I have seen all the episodes multiple times but not in quite a few years. Some were better than others but overall, it was a pretty darned good tv show.
We have DVDs my wife watches ALL THE TIME! Lots of good life lessons in there that is not on TV today.
Last night I was surprised to see that same channel had “The Trouble With Tribbles” on in what was apparently a one time airing.
One of the better episodes.
TOS? Or the Continues webseries? I understand that a fourth episode is scheduled to shoot and be released very soon now on the Continues website. Seems amazingly close to the original, complete with “Kirk” displaying his trademark mannerisms, Grand Gestures, and speechifying as is his wont.
Nothing in the Star Trek world after the original Series has been really good. Some of them are watchable but that is about all. Some of them are pretty bad.
Imagine what the TOS could have done with the budget of TNG
Try the Star Trek Continues webseries. It seems surprisingly good, and I hear good things about Star Trek Exeter as well although I have not gotten around to viewing it yet.
STC is okay, just their alternative universe episode is a must see
It might be interesting but I am not sure it would have made all that much difference. They had enough money to do what they had to do, especially since they were able to raid the dumpsters at Paramount.
The characters and writing was what was important. For that matter there were a few weak ones in TOS too.
I didn’t even know that show existed.

Lots of good comments and reviews.
At present Netflix streaming has all episodes of all ST series.
YouTube has most, if not all, of them as well. :)
And the STC episodes as well.
You guys hear the story about how it go cancelled?
I think Steve Gibson mentioned this on his “Security Now” podcast.
According to Roddenberry, at the time the Nelsen ratings only tracked total viewers. For the time slot it was not outstanding.
It was only after the show was canceled that they started tracking actual demographics.
And Star Trek had the BEST demographics once they went back and looked at them OF ALL TIME...
No, I never heard that. One wonders then why they did not re-start it once they realized their mistake. Over 30 years of re-broadcasts can’t be wrong.
