You probably already knew this, if you're a Star Trek fan. But it's really true. YouTube is just bursting with original Star Trek content lately, from damn near spot-on recreations of the Original Series to continuations of the TNG/DS9/Voyager era. This is the golden age of Star Trek web productions.
It's actually kind of dangerous: Sometimes late at night, recently, I'll find myself scanning through clips of the Original Series on YouTube or Hulu. And then I'll start watching an episode of Star Trek: Phase II or Star Trek Continues, and then the next thing I know it's two hours later and I have to get up and work in the morning. What's amazing is the level of quality in the sets and VFX in these shows and how devoted everybody is to getting it as right as they can.
Back when Doctor Who was off television from 1989 to 2005, with only one TV movie to tide us over, the audio-only Big Finish productions helped keep the love of the Doctor alive, and gently expand the limits of Who storytelling. I can't help wondering if we're seeing something similar with these fan productions and if one day we'll look back in the middle of a new era of Star Trek on television, and say that these shows helped make it happen. That's certainly the goal, in at least one of these cases.

I actually found this by a reference to "Star Trek Continues", and other webseries continue to appear as I search.

Many thanks -I was looking for more information about that! :)
I have read other comments about the four-years-war, but had not yet come across any information about it and this link is quite helpful in that regard.
Don’t get hooked on star trek online... it is free and has an engaging story line.

Time to put this overdone series to sleep.
There's a 'professional fan-based' movie coming up this year called "Axanar". It's about the decisive battle between the Federation and the Klingons in the Four Years War, which takes place about two decades before the TOS series. It features many actors who have done Star Trek TV series in one form or another, including Gary Graham, J. G. Hertzler, and Tony Todd.
They did a short film called 'Prelude to Axanar' that you can watch on YouTube. It's done like a documentary, with 'interviews' interspersed with some very good CGI. It's meant as a lead-in to 'Axanar'.
The mirror universe episode they made, which happens right after Kirk beams back to his normal vessel was AWESOME

taking place a while after the end of VOYAGER
they say it nearly finished, they are cleaning up the color and all that. All the VFX is in the can.
Philistine. *grin*
There was one a few years ago that featured some actors from the original series, including Walter Koenig. The first episode featured a gay wedding in the Enterprise chapel, so I never watched any more of it.
I prefer Scottish Star Trek. “Set phasers tae malky!”
There wouldn’t be “gays” in the 24th century.
Darn it had to watch the whole thing....
And vic did music and carpentry and editing...
Looks like a work of love.
I had an idea once for a series set on a private owned starship during the dominion war that gets a letter or marque and later gets drafted to fight the dominion war.
It would be unapolagetic about being capitalist conservative.
star trek ping...
Sounds like a good idea, could at least be a story if not a show
I’m easily pleased. Just make something different for a change.
