La Paz, Mar 27 (EFE).- The government of Bolivia announced it will start exploratory excavations this year at the ancient fortress of Tiahuanaco after a buried pyramid was detected.
Ludwing Cayo, director of the Tiahuanaco Archeological Research Center, told Efe that the formation is located in the area of Kantatallita, east of the Akapana pyramid.
In a presentation for the media, Cayo outlined a five-year for further research at Tiahuanaco, an archaeological site 71 kilometers (44 miles) west of La Paz that was the cradle of an ancient civilization predating the Incas.
Excavations may start in May or June, depending on the timing of cooperation agreements with foreign universities and institutes to enroll more forensic archaeology experts in the effort, Cayo said.
Besides the pyramid, ground-penetrating radar has detected “a number of underground anomalies” that might be monoliths, but those findings require more detailed analysis.
Tiahuanaco was the capital of a pre-Columbian empire known as Tiwanaku that left a legacy of impressive stone monuments such as Kalasasaya, the semi-underground Templete, sculptures of prominent figures, the Gate of the Sun and ruins of palaces.
Bolivian researchers say Tiahuanaco began as an agricultural village around 1580 B.C. and grew to become an imperial state by A.D. 724, but was in decline by the late 12th century.

Maybe it’s buried for a reason.

What is buried under those pyramids then?
I find it exceedingly sad that a network like the Discovery Channel, and in particular The History Channel of all places finds it necessary to broadcast Ancient Aliens nearly 24 hours a day.
There is soo much more they could do.
Maybe it’s a sign of the times, either way, it’s just sad.
We really have no idea about the history of this planet.
I think human civ is far far older than previously through, human civ rises, then falls, then rises again, this is the sotry of the tower of babel passed via whispers and rumours until it was written down for the bible... It is a cautionary tale....

Since ‘recorded’ history goes back only to about 5000 BC, or so, and since man, as a sentient being has been around for a million or so years, there is a big hole in what happened in those ensuing millennia..............
Can you imagine being the slave that was told to build a pyramid then after you and the others finished it you were told to now bury it!
If the entire history of the world was the height of the Empire State Building, the entire history of ‘man’ would be the thickness of a postage stamp on top of the TV tower...............

#7 I can summarized ancient civilizations.
They started to create a civilization, new ways of growing crops, building reservoirs, new ways of governing by electing leaders then one day they elected democrats and the fall of their civilization occurred.
Many stories of how smart the people were back when but they could not move the civilization forward because of some despot (today know as the democrat party) ruled that like California you could not build something that helped everyone but only waste resources on something that only benefited few. If Gov Jerry Brown (D) wanted to build a pyramid instead of a slow speed train to nowhere the democrat party would be all in as long as they got their cut of the money.
