A pair of elephants helped rescue the truck they were riding in when it got stuck in the mud on a trip from New Orleans to Dallas.
It all happened on Tuesday around 7:03 a.m., when the tractor trailer transporting three elephants pulled over from Interstate 49 near the Powhatan exit in Louisiana and accidentally got stuck in some mud, the Natchitoches Parish Sheriffs office said in a statement.
When deputies arrived on scene, they were astounded to find two elephants keeping the eighteen wheeler from overturning, the sheriffs office said.
The elephants on the truck were being transported to Frisco, Texas, for a circus.
A wrecker service arrived and was able to free the truck, relieving the elephants of their burden.
No citations were issued, police said.
Since elephants never forget, they’ll have something to tell their kids!
DANG!
Im a bit surprised that “no citations” were forthcoming
I saw the same thing done on a Viagra commercial. Only the guy used his own team of horses to pull his pickup out of the mud.
What a great story.
If those elephants hadn’t been available to help there is no telling what horrors might have befallen that poor truck driver. I think the federal DOT should start requiring all tractor trailer-trucks to carry at least two “emergency elephants” at all times.
If it saves even ONE life, the additional expense and hassle will be well worth it...
Oh, nevermind.
Think of all of the good work that could be done by “repurposing” Michael Moore to perform such tasks...
Oh the pachydermity!! Don't they know that circuses EXPLOIT elephants?? Why The Greatest Show On Earth has recently said that they will phase out the use of these precious animals. /sarc
The only thing that could possibly improve this story is a trunk monkey.
This is a everyday occurrence in India....
PETA will be issuing a press release at 2PM ET to decry the exploitation of these elephants.
Elephants are mans helpers—Like Horses, mules, dogs and even Cats -— They are as smart as a dog and weigh two tons. If the African Elephant could be domesticated (as they were in Ancient Sudan and Carthage) they would not be endangered. PETA has it all wrong this time.
Huh.. I’ve got a V8 in the truck, I wonder what the conversion factor is between horsepower and elephant power? Maybe it’s more of a torque thing - foot pounds vs. pachyderm pounds?
Kind of reminds me of a couple scenes in “Larger than Life”, a rather sweet Bill Murray Movie, that I watched on TV a couple weeks ago:
