Dogs do it. Rats do it. Even some people seem to be able to sniff out cancer and other diseases. Now we can add the humble roundworm to the list of super-smellers.
Japanese researchers have discovered that Caenorhabditis elegans worms can detect cancer in people's urine. They are working with technology companies Hitachi and Johnan to turn the finding into a diagnostic test that can be used to catch the disease in its early stages.
"In existing tests, people must have different examinations according to the type of cancer they have", says Takaaki Hirotsu from Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan, who co-led the work. "Our odour-based test detected all nine types of cancer we tested."

I can tell you that there is a much better test. It is high resolution CT scan or a PT scan. Much better that worms. They saved my worthy life.
I'm sure America will lead the way in this medical research with the influx of dreamers you just KNOW are interested in that kind of stuff...
Hmm ... I thought the worm test was for the quality of tequila.
That and for testing out fish population while trout fishing..
‘Cept in one state (Wisconsin?) where you’re not allowed to use worms for bait.
Been looking for a part time job. Hmmm... urine sniffer.
Really? Didnt know that. I was in NC year ago and they allowed it.
Don’t know about NC but I remember reading that one state up there you weren’t allowed to use worms as bait. Here in WA you can’t use barbed hooks to catch salmon.
Don’t laugh - pretty good three-part series on PBS this week all about cancer - turns out one of the biggest discoveries in helping to uncover the causes of cancer so far came from studying cancer in chickens - helped researchers realize that it was a specific gene in the normal genetic makeup of the organism that went rogue and made the cells multiply uncontrollably - part three tomorrow night here in Philly.....

The HCG test is the most sensitive, and effective test.
Long before anything could be detectable in a scan, the HCG test will show its existence, and it is cheap to run.

I think there is a debate on that. but I did learn more reading about it.
.
The only debate possible is pregnancy, and for men that falls out completely.
Even the pregnancy angle gets resolved long before anything would be visible in a scan.
.
Not true. It is debatable in its accuracy and efficacy. not one major cancer treating institution gives it consideration. It is really medicine man crap.
That’s what morons always think!
It doesn’t make them any money so they don’t use it.
It is the only truly reliable test and ir works earlier than any other, and it can be done for $60 including postage.
