Jerry Lewis (born March 16, 1926) is an American comedian, actor, singer, film producer, screenwriter and film director. He is known for his slapstick humor in film, television, stage and radio. He was originally paired up with Dean Martin in 1946, forming the famed comedy team of Martin and Lewis.
In addition to the duo's popular nightclub work, they starred in a successful series of comedy films for Paramount Pictures. Lewis is also known as the host, for more than 40 years, of the Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual Labor Day Telethon and national chairman of the MDA.
Lewis has won several awards for lifetime achievements from The American Comedy Awards, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and Venice Film Festival, and he has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2005, he received the Governors Award of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Board of Governors, which is the highest Emmy Award presented.[1] On February 22, 2009, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded Lewis the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
i always thought his comedy was sophomoric but his work with the telethon, lifeworthy.
Gee, didn’t realize he was still alive.
His charity work truly outstanding Happy Birthday Jerry.
Met him in the late 50s.
When I was a kid, I loved the movie “Artists And Models. Watched the whole movie last week on youtube. There was a radio show host here, the late Joe Finsn, who said many times that Lewis was a complete prick to be around.
I tend to agree with a notable exception: His movie "The Nutty Professor" was a good piece of work and funny. And better than the Eddie Murphy version.
Jerry Lewis long had a small yacht moored at San Diego’s Shelter Island.
Happy Birthday Jerry! I have always loved your work and I wish you the best.
I read somewhere that Lewis is no longer affiliated with the MDA. Did he retire or was there a falling out?
Sad Sack was a favorite.
yes he did, a nice one as I recall, i was all of 13 so don’t remember a lot.
Their nightclub act was much funnier than their movies and the Colgate comedy hour was great when they ad libbed.
Can somebody explain to us why the Muscular Dystrophy foundation quit asking him to be the host for their annual TV telethon?
Great book by grouchy Marx’s son. You can still get it on Amazon.
Talks about him being an ass to people.
Dean never paid back the people that helped him.
Why Did Jerry Lewis Leave the Telethon?

My daughter loves all things Cinderella, the story, not just the Disney movies. Last week I rented Cinderfella for her on Netflix. What an original idea, to do Cinderella with a guy, instead of a girl.
If you can somehow find it, I would recommend that you watch THE KING OF COMEDY with Lewis and Robert DeNiro. As I understand it, the director told Lewis just to ‘be himself’ so he improvised many of his lines. In it and in his interviews, I can see a young man who found early success that poisoned his ego - making him an arrogant prick at times. But, he’s a bigger philanthropist than I’ll ever be! Hope he’s well.
