Peanut Butter Hummus -- delicious! (vanity)

Posted on 02/18/2015 3:44:35 PM PST by RoosterRedux

I live out in the sticks and can't find the major ingredient of hummus (i.e. tahini). Found several recipes for hummus using natural peanut butter. Made some and it is wonderful.

Here's a link to the source for the recipe I used...recipe for peanut butter hummus.

Ate it for dinner tonight with raw broccoli.

Wow!

Don't know if this is right for you and Mr HB...but it is incredibly tasty.

Tahini is easy to make. Just roast some sesame seeds in the oven for a bit and throw them in the food processor with some olive oil. That’s all there is to it.

When I tried Tahini, it tasted similar to peanut butter. Does your hummus taste like traditional hummus or is it different?

That’s what I use too. But instead of tahini, try the natural peanut butter.

I bought a small plastic case of Sabra hummus a few days ago...and I much prefer mine own.

The one I bought had sun-dried tomatoes, but it was a bit too strong.

I am going to buy some sun-dried tomatoes and add a bit to mine so that I can compare.

But long story, short...it is so much cheaper to make your own.

BTW...hummus is quite high in fiber!

Stay near the restroom!

Hmmm... interesting. I may give it a try. “Regular” hummus is okay for about 3 bites, then it just seems icky to me. LOL. Maybe this version will be more palatable!

How far out in the sticks does one have to live to not have access to a store that sells tahini?

I live in a little hamlet in Florida with ~30K population, and every store I go to carries it.

That said, I’m gonna try the recipe.

Everybody makes their hummus with chick peas. Lol. She was talking about subbing the tahini with peanut butter.

I’m not much of a hummus guy, but I made some cashew butter after my local store stopped carrying it. Turned out better than the brand I was buying anyway, and it’s easy to make.

I buy the Red Pepper Hummus from Aldi. Only costs about $2.00 and uses olive oil instead of Canola oil. Mrs. Pete uses it instead of Mayo on sandwiches.

(Canola—or rape seed oil—goes rancid faster and has other possible health problems.)
