There are tons of articles now about the movie including this latest from Variety. The movie continues to do extremely well. It's a movie that everyone should see to gain a better understanding of what those in combat sometimes go through. I hope that those who need help will get in touch with the VA and find healing.
This is a partial ping list for some people who liked the movie and maybe have more insight about the film. I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s comments as they have discussed the film on other threads.
Clint Eastwood is a true genius. He took a lot of his Western photography to the movie and made a masterpiece. He is known for not pulling punches and he tells the whole story in this one.
The story tells what we were fighting and how amazing our troops are. Best war movie I ever watched.
Pray America is waking
It’s an excellent movie. I don’t cry easily, but it was hard to hold back tears at the end.
The political objections of leftists are ridiculous. I could not discern any political point of view in the film. It was about bravery, sacrifice and patriotism.
I saw it last weekend and thought it was a terrific movie.
Soon to be #1 war film, overtaking Pvt. Ryan.
Some of the actors in the movie and who they portrayed.
We saw this last week. It was so well done and believable that it made me cry........ great movie, go see it.
I've been following some threads on a photography site, and just in the past few days people there have managed to form opinions about the film (despite their vows to never ever go see it). They now see it as a massive propaganda piece, designed by a radical extremist right-wing senile director with the aim of convincing people that the evil Iraq war really wasn't the biggest series of war crimes in the history of the planet.
Saw the movie last nite, liked it a lot, high rating for ease of suspending disbelief.
But it has to be said that in the all-male settings the dialogue is, shall we say, uninhibited. Entirely realistic in that way . . .
Wife and I just got back from seeing it. Terrific film. It really made me “feel it” again. I honestly forgot I was watching Bradley Cooper for most of the film, he just seemed like a guy in uniform doing his best to kick ass in that lovely country.
It also made me hate liberals even more. Their ridiculous complaints about the movie and its message show how shallow and pointless their thinking and lives are. No human could watch that scene with “The Butcher” and his drill on that kid and not agree with Kyle’s “savages” assessment. Yet many liberals apparently do.
My wife's previous husband (God rest his soul) was a WW II veteran. She said the movie gave her a better understanding of what that man went through in Europe, fighting every inch of the way from the Channel coast to Germany.
The theater today was way over half full, maybe three quarters. That's impossible for a matinee, even on weekends.
When the movie ended, not a soul moved until the end of the credits. Then everyone exited the theater, without even a whispered comment by anyone until we were in the lobby. That's intense.
The last time I experienced that was Flags of Our Fathers. My Dad was a Pharmacist's Mate (think Corpsman or Medic) who invaded Iwo Jima. We took him to see Flags of Our Fathers. He thought it was a as authentically rendered as Hollywood can render. Those movie fans left that movie in silence, as well.
My Son served two tours in Iraq. To my knowledge he was only in harm's way once, and that one time had zip to do with his job. I think because our Son was there, the movie was even more intense for my Wife.
I would highly recommend American Sniper to anyone who hasn't seen it. Don't plan on being entertained. Nevertheless, if you aren't moved, you have neither heart nor soul.
Hubby & I saw tonight..it was a 4:30 showing & packed house.
I knew the Chris Kyle story so was not shocked at the end but still crying. But obviously others didnt know his story, there was a very audible gasp & tears when the byline showed he had died.
My husband & I both loved..bravo to Eastwood, Cooper etc.
My husband spent the drive home explaining to me about the gun scope, windage etc..& said not enough time spent on the spotter duties?
