Rare sighting in the Suburbs- Our National Bird
Personal ^ | 12/13/2015 | Self/Friend

Good Morning!

This Pic was sent to Me from My Bestest Friend in Denton, TX yesterday. He took it at the Water Plant. Two Bald Eagles by the Basins.

There are Bald Eagles that live on Lake Buchanan, 230 (+/-) miles South & West and there are Guided Bald Eagle Boat Tours there I have been on 25+ years ago and saw 15+ of them in a few hours.

But I would never expect to see any by Denton- just North of DFW.

Anyway I figured this was too Awesome and Cool to not share.

Hey George?

What Mable?

Did

you know that the Turkey almost became the National Bird instead of Us?!

Well I'm glad they got that fixed before Signing the paperwork, We sure

dodged a bullet on that one!

We see them all the time in WA state. We saw them everyday when living in SE Alaska. Not so majestic when you see them feeding at the garbage dump though..they are a scavenger.

Bald Eagles have made a tremendous comeback, and in 2007 were removed from the endangered species and threatened species lists.

Still protected, of course, and possession of a single Eagle feather, even if it fell off the bird as it flew over your head, is a $25,000 fine. (Unless you are a native American with permission.)

I live in the panhandle. There’s a nest of baldies in a longleaf pine the next street over from us.

You can see bald eagles within the city limits of Seattle.

Very close to the Mississippi here in Il. I've had them in my trees. I have seen nearly 100 at a time by the locks near me and heard on the radio that there are around 600 around the locks in the Illinois / Iowa Quad Cities right now. One of my Chicago buddies commented after seeing them all over that if you didn't know what they were you would think they were a pest!

In Denton, huh? That’s about 50 miles from me. Hope they migrate down to my area of Texas. I’ve never seen one.

There are two nesting pairs of Bald Eagles in Pittsburgh now. One pair on a hill side above the Allegheny river and another pair above the Monongahela river.

The pair on the Monongahela successfully raised 3 chicks last summer and 2 chicks the year before.

I had to outrun a Golden Eagle and then fight it for possession of one of my dogs.

Not terribly entranced by eagles, anymore.

A bald eagle killed a woman’s Chihuahua the other day in Spring, Texas just north of Houston.

Sorry about going “Poof” Yesterday and not monitoring the Thread.

I’m still not back up to full speed from the “Sinus Plague 2014/2015”

I get Head Aches after just a short amount of Screen time/reading.

And I’ve already hit that point this AM.

Be back later.

Grew up in Denton through the sixties and seventies. I heard of them in the area as early as the mid eighties though.

Which of your dogs was small enough to be carried off by an eagle?

Gypsy, the Portuguese Podengo Medio.

Of all crazy things, her ongoing issues from her previous abuse in CA saved her.

If I move towards her too fast, she’ll drop flat to the ground, still expecting mistreatment.

I was running to her and screaming and she hit the dirt instantly, allowing me to scoop her up on the fly and run back to the house with her.

The damn bird’s wings were hitting me in the back.

As I reached the porch, I looked up and it was coming back for another dive.

For a good month, I waited for that bastard to come back but it never did.
