Frozen memories, for sure. Frostbite memories, even.
In the history of NFL games, none stands out for the brutal conditions in which it was played like the NFC championship on the last day of 1967. Simply dubbed the Ice Bowl, those who participated in Cowboys-Packers that day at Lambeau Field still shiver when talking about it.
With Dallas paying its first postseason visit to Green Bay since losing 21-17 on Bart Starr's quarterback sneak with 13 seconds remaining on that frigid day, recalling that game 47 years ago is timely.

Ice Bowl Pingy.
If they were in Dallas in the outdoors this weekend it might be Ice Bowl II.
But I hear tell it is a mite cold up there in Lambeau...
Heck for GB thats balmy weather this time of year.
I remember the AFC championship game in 1981 in Cincinnatii . Wind chill at kick off was -57!!. The Chargers had flown in from San Diego the day before. The bengal offensive line took the field in short sleeves. Not much of a game. Chargers couldn’t wait to get back to sunny California, trophy less of course.
RIP Jethro Pugh.
I remember that game also! Watched it at work nobody came in that day too dang cold. We all sat up front and watched the game on a little black and white tv with lousy reception
Little side note. Watched a documentary on this on the NFL channel. Green Bay had installed a heater consisting of a mesh of wires underneath the field. Lombardi was quite proud of this and showed it off often. Night before the game, they turned the heaters on and covered the field. Result was a lot of condensation under the field cover. When they removed the cover, the field froze almost instantly. IOW, had they left the cover off or not turned the heaters on, the condition of the field would have been much better.
Interesting tidbit, thanks.
I remember watching that game as a 12 year old on our 13 inch b/w TV. Our outside temperature was 48F.
He never made a Pro Bowl, which was criminal IMHO.
Things would have been alright if the heaters had not malfunctioned. They were to be on during the game, but the heaters stopped working. I wonder what Lombardi said to the installers after the game?
That Cincy game made the Ice Bowl look like the Lukewarm Bowl.
“Chargers couldnt wait to get back to sunny California, trophy less of course.”
California still did okay that year...
Especially since the Chargers had played the previous week in Miami, talk about going from one extreme to the other.
I can barely remember the game.
A few things do stand out tho. One was watching the linemen trying to break through the frozen turf with their cleats to get traction. Another was Bart Starr running a Quarterback sneak to win the game.
Mostly just how cold everyone looked.
In the press box, sportswriters were talking about their bricks of coffee. Yes, the coffee froze into these circular bricks because of the cold.
