Unusually high tides expected in Bay Area

The Bay Area is expected to have some of the highest tides of the year beginning Sunday, forecasters said.

King tides, which usually last up to three days three times in the winter, bring unusually high tides along the coast and bay front, said Drew Peterson, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Monterey.

The agency has already issued a coastal flood advisory to take effect Sunday morning, he said.

Low-lying areas along the bay and along the coast, such as walkways, piers and parking lots along the Embarcadero, can expect to see some seawater, he said. Those who park their cars in such areas should be aware that there may be some flooding, he added.

The high tide time for Sunday is at 10:13 a.m. and on Monday it’s at 10:58 a.m., he said. Tuesday’s high tide is expected at 11:44 a.m. The highest tide is expected to be on Monday.

We had dang near 10 inches here in my little semi-arid oasis since Dec. 1. Fingers crossed we keep it up.. nice and slow.

Hows the rest of the Bay Area doing?

The liberals will blame high tides and high water on global warming. Melting of the ice caps and rising sea levels and all that. Everything is somehow due to global warming.

The dam dikes in San Francisco aren't worried.

Wonder if the shortest day, longest night contributes? A convergence of events? Angle of the earth wrt to the moon?

Or maybe just a coincidence.

Astronomically, there is a convergence of events, and added to that a Pacific storm. But a full moon is not one of the events.
