Girls as young as 12 are getting cosmetic surgery such as butt lifts and nose jobs under the watchful eye of their mothers in a desperate and extreme bid to become beauty queens in Venezuela. In a country obsessed with winning international contests like Miss World and Miss Universe fame-hungry teens are going to shocking lengths to conform to the beauty pageant ideal. They include extreme measures to lose weight, with girls as young as 16 undergoing drastic surgery to cut out part of their intestines so food passes through their body without being digested.

The Dallas Stars program is pretty good. But it is no Little Ceasers, Bell Tire or even the NJ Rockets. I did snd a couple of kids to Shattuck over the years, but the best they did was play D3.

Yeah, in order to argue the opposite, you’d have to equate beauty with superiority.

Since D2 is essentially gone in Hockey D3 is good hockey. But no scholarship money and less of a chance seeing a pro-scout.

The discussion is begging the question.

We haven't defined "superior people" ... and it's a concept with a checkered past.

It was once spelled ubermenchen, and that whole business turned out badly.

The best way to determine superiority is to measure prosperity in a climate of mutual voluntary cooperation.

My brother learned the same thing playing semi-pro baseball. He was on a team with two guys who had washed out of organized ball at the Class A level.

He said “they were so much better than the rest of us, I had to be crazy to think I ever had a shot at the Major Leagues.”

The best way to determine superiority is to measure prosperity in a climate of mutual voluntary cooperation.

Why is that the best way? What sort of prosperity do you mean? Is mutual voluntary cooperation sole defining characteristic of the social climate in the "best way"?

Eggzackly.

I’ve always found it interesting that when “superiority” is defined the definition almost invariably establishes the definer’s group as superior. What a shock!

:)

I’m not saying MrB is right or wrong ... I’m curious as to what he means.

Me too.

You probably remember the Sun People vs. Ice People idiocy of a few years back.

Took all the old stereotypes about dark-skinned peoples as emotional and illogical and simply redefined those characteristics as good and “white people” logic and intellect as bad.

Always seemed to me the question comes down to “superior at what?”

“What I mean”...

First off, I don’t believe in any sort of genetic superiority,
but I do believe in cultural superiority.

“Western” cultures will invariably prove themselves superior in an environment of non-coercion.

I don’t see that any other environment would be a proper “proving ground”.

OK. I agree both with regard to genetic superiority, and with regard to "Western" culture.

That said, I don't think that Western culture, at its best, is purely about material prosperity, nor is it defined by unfettered mutual voluntary cooperation. Western culture has always been fundamentally religious (pagan at first, Christian for 2000 years), and has always existed within a framework of laws. America, in the last 50 years, has denigrated the religious aspect of Western culture, elevated material prosperity above all else, and turned the rule of law into anarchic tyranny. So what we have now is still a Western culture, but one that is destroying itself even while it is materially prosperous. Our culture is wealthy, but unholy.

Material prosperity naturally stems from following the values on which Western culture is based.

It was set up that way... :)

Yup. My kid is trying out for the D2 team next season. He is playing club which is probably D3. I watched A&M club play a few weeks ago. My kids U18 AA team from a couple of seasons back would destroy them.

When you look at players from Class A thru AAA, the difference at each level is huge. One of my hockey players parents asked me at the beginning of the season, what does their U14 player need to do to make it to the NHL.

I have a chart stashed somewhere that goes like this.

Training: 3 hours a day, 6 days a week, 350 days a year for 15 years. That doesn’t include mental toughness, soft skills(communication) and coming from a good gene pool will not hurt.

I usually give this schpiel at the first parents meeting. It sobers them up quickly. I usually add they need to be straight A students and that the parents will need 40 grand a year to ship them off to a NE prep school.
