Humpback whales increasing in New York City waters

Whale-watchers have spotted the species in the Atlantic within a mile of the Rockaway peninsula, part of New York's borough of Queens.
This year alone, 106 humpbacks have been spotted - and experts say there are at least 19 different kinds.
Naturalists are questioning why these much-loved creatures have chosen to return to the city's shores, after whaling killed off many pods in the past.
Mr Rosenbaum said the increase could be due to a basic shift in the whales' habits rather than a spike in population.

Natural migration route from arctic waters to the tropics....No big deal
Found in all of the world's oceans, most populations of humpback whales follow a regular migration route, summering in temperate and polar waters for feeding, and wintering in tropical waters for mating and calving.

Its about time I dusted off the whale oil lamp and get it ready to use again. At least it will be “natural” and won't use fossil fuels. The greenies will be proud. /sarc.

Hey, managed correctly, whale oil is a renewable energy too.
In the 1870’s, buffalo hunters discovered that the best bullet lube was 50% beeswax, and 50% sperm whale oil... so before you slaughtered the buffalo, you had to kill the whales!

Actually they are, in restricted numbers of catch. The humpback is no longer endangered and the fact that this group was spotted off the coast of New York ain't really a big deal since it's their normal southerly route to the tropics........

And then there is the highway crew in Oregon that was charged with getting rid of a dead whale.
Their answer? Explosives! A piece of blubber lands on a new Caddy parked 1/4 mile away.
Interestingly a worker stated before hand that they had no idea how much to use!
