Apple today released iOS 8.1.2 which includes bug fixes and addresses a problem where ringtone purchased through iTunes Store may have been removed from your device.
To restore these ringtones, visit Restore Ringtones on your iOS device.
iOS 8.1.2 is compatible with the following iOS devices:
The iOS 8.1.2 update is now available as an OTA download.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
Hmmm.
It is hard to tell what is NOT included on their list for the update.
I hope the older iPhones/iPads that it is NOT recommended for excluded from updating.
If you have an ipad 2 and have not updated to IOS 8 - DON’T. It will degrade performance substantially and cut your battery life in half. I wish Apple had warned me about this. My ipad 2 was my first Apple purchase and will probably be my last.
Yeah. I think after either the last update, or the one before, my 5S battery life has sucked.
I used to be able to work a 12-hour shift with it in airplane mode and only lose about seven percent while listening to podcasts and audiobooks nonstop.
Now, I lose about fifty percent.
Curious. I have a 5c iPhone and an iPad 2 and neither has suffered more than about 10% change of battery life under iOS 8. Your unhappy experiences may be related to other additional causes than strictly the version upgrade.
I don't think so because if you go to the Apple forums there are many, many people who have had the same experience. If one contacts Apple their "fix" it to upgrade the product. Sorry, but I am old school and believe a product costing $500 should perform more than 3 or 4 years.
I don’t think you can hold Apple accountable for a three year old technology losing some capabilities through all these software updates. Tech jus doesn’t last that long anymore. I rarely have a laptop last more than two years. My droid phones were obsolete in their third year. The pace of software advancement matches or exceeds the advancement of the chips and hardware.
I have an iPad 2. It is updated through 8.1.1. Since this last update it worked perfectly. I couldn’t be happier with it. My iPhone is also working fine on 8.1.1.
From what I read, update 8.2 has to do with ringtones that disappeared with previous updates. I haven’t bought any ringtones, so I’m not concerned with the 8.2 update.
While I don't necessarily agree with this, I can certainly hold Apple accountable for not informing me that installing the latest OS upgrade would affect performance substantially and thus giving me the opportunity to make an informed decision as to whether or not to install the update. Had I known about this I would never have upgrade as the tablet was already doing everything I needed just fine. The failure to do this was a conscious decision on Apple's part, intended to force me to buy a newer product.
Sorry. I should have mentioned that my iPhone is a 4s. I will continue using it until the 6s comes out. I couldn’t be happier with the performance of my Apple products.
“I am old school and believe a product costing $500 should perform more than 3 or 4 years”
LOL-
Apple and others have to figure out how to MAKE more
money-selling you upgrades!! ??
maybe putting in little “tweaks” to degrade performance?
My iphone 4-s “hangs”- does not call correctly, goes into
rapid battery depletion- BUT not always!? wtf...
have had several techs look at it- their answer-
yep- would you like to upgrade? will give you a big
trade-in discount!- oh well, might buy a 6+ or
maybe a Samsung?
Ok, can someone give me advice on this? I use an iPad mini, but I think it’s the second version with retina display. That’s not listed as compatible for this update. I tend not to do the upgrades on the OS until I hear that the bugs are fixed. Should I try this one, or skip it?
I have an iPhone 5. My wife and some friends have the Galaxy. We each like our own but I have seen first hand the multiple issues they’ve had with their Galaxies. I keep telling my wife to “come to the dark side (loud breathing)”!!!
I have an iPad Air which continually locks up for 10-20 seconds quite frequently especially when typing since “upgrading” to IOS 8.
Very annoying. But there is no way back to IOS 7x. My iPhone 4S will remain at its pre-IOS 8 level. Why tempt fate?
My sister got me with "Come to the Dark Side, we have cookies!"
Some small issues, but overall, I'd been happy. Once the Galaxies got larger, I decided to go two-handed, and started carrying one of each. Within weeks of Apple finally deciding to go large as well, my Galaxy had a big software update... and it has been infuriating. The predictive text feature will change at least 2-3 words in every sentence, including numbers. It apparently feels I didn't mean to write "1306", and changes it for me to "1307"... and if I'm not paying attention, I'll send it with the changes. Grrr.
Given that one issue alone, I'll recommend the iPhone 6+ much more than any Galaxy, until I get this "feature" fixed or reversed.
I avoided upgrading my iPad 2 because earlier ones degraded performance. I was forced to upgrade before I could change a password and it really sucks now. My first and last Apple product.
These days processors are stupidly powerful for the vast majority of user's needs.
I just don't understand how any reasonably decent modern processor can become 'underpowered' in just a couple of years. Buy decent hardware and enough capacity (RAM/Disk) and a 6 year(or more) lifespan is easily doable unless you're trying to render movies for ILM.
The last desktop I built was designed to be a 10 year box (it's now about 3 years old). I started off with top of the line hardware, knowing that over time it will age gracefully, and eventually will get to the point where some new and shiny 24-48 core system will simply offer so much processing power that it would be stupid for me not to upgrade, especially when I can match the processor to similar increases in memory capacity.
Well, I just got the update and will see what it does while at work tonight-tomorrow. I’ll report on this thread tomorrow morning.
