If you have an ipad 2 and have not updated to IOS 8 - DON’T. It will degrade performance substantially and cut your battery life in half. I wish Apple had warned me about this. My ipad 2 was my first Apple purchase and will probably be my last.

Yeah. I think after either the last update, or the one before, my 5S battery life has sucked.
I used to be able to work a 12-hour shift with it in airplane mode and only lose about seven percent while listening to podcasts and audiobooks nonstop.
Now, I lose about fifty percent.

I don’t think you can hold Apple accountable for a three year old technology losing some capabilities through all these software updates. Tech jus doesn’t last that long anymore. I rarely have a laptop last more than two years. My droid phones were obsolete in their third year. The pace of software advancement matches or exceeds the advancement of the chips and hardware.

I have an iPad 2. It is updated through 8.1.1. Since this last update it worked perfectly. I couldn’t be happier with it. My iPhone is also working fine on 8.1.1.

From what I read, update 8.2 has to do with ringtones that disappeared with previous updates. I haven’t bought any ringtones, so I’m not concerned with the 8.2 update.

Sorry. I should have mentioned that my iPhone is a 4s. I will continue using it until the 6s comes out. I couldn’t be happier with the performance of my Apple products.

I avoided upgrading my iPad 2 because earlier ones degraded performance. I was forced to upgrade before I could change a password and it really sucks now. My first and last Apple product.

My girlfriend's iPad 2 showed improved battery life with the upgrade to iOS8 and then more with the upgrade to iOS8.1. I haven't upgraded her iPad to iOS8.1.2 yet but intend to later tonight. Your problem may be something else. . . an app that is misbehaving or you did not completely reset the iPad with a cold restart perhaps?
