This is the sickening moment a hit-and-run driver smashed into a crowd of Ferguson protesters in Minnesota, before dragging a woman 20 feet under his front wheel and running over her leg.

It looked to me like the guy on the hood broke the windshield so yes, the driver was fearing for his life. If that crowd would have pulled him out it wouldn’t have been to give him a hug.

Two separate videos of the incident shown in that video. You can see people mobbing the car and jumping on it before he makes any attempt to escape. Completely justified in fearing for his life.
