After posting yet another disappointing quarter, McDonalds CEO Don Thompson said Tuesday the company hasnt been keeping up with the times and that changes are in store for its U.S. restaurants.
Thompson said that starting in January, McDonalds will simplify its menu to make room for restaurants to offer options that are best-suited for their regions. To offer greater customization, he also said the company planned to expand its Create Your Taste offering that lets people pick the buns and toppings they want on burgers by tapping a touchscreen. The program is currently being offered in Southern California, and McDonalds has said it will roll it out nationally in Australia. [ ]
The changes come as McDonalds continues to struggle with myriad problems. One of its biggest challenges in the U.S. is long-held perceptions around the freshness and quality of its ingredients. The chain has been fighting to boost sales as people gravitate toward foods they feel are more wholesome. As a result, people have been gravitating to places like Chipotle, which markets its ingredients as being of superior quality.

“Now the restaurants are full of shabbily dressed slobs who smell and don’t speak English very well.”
And that is just the kids behind the counter!
I like Taco Cabana! Its a craphole of a Mexican Food chain, but the food is ridiculously good.
Not really. The bowl and the burrito have the the exact same ingredient options, only the bowl doesn't have the tortilla, which I happily do without.
When I was in Hobbs... I could not understand how Taco Bell could be in business there. Taco Bell doesn’t make Barbacoa, Chili Rellenos, or Carne Asado.
Man, I miss New Mexico.
They should rename their business 'McGhetto Burgers'.
Tastes. Like. Soap.
Good food. Sadie's and stuffed Sopapillas, frijoles y papitas. Best plate of food ever.
What the hell is poblano ?
.
Exactly what In 'n Out does today. Very limited menu, good quality, freshly made, reasonably priced, cheerful servers. Like the early McDonald's.
A return to beef tallow-fried salted French fries, hamburgers that actually taste like real beef and are bigger and thicker than a dime, and chicken that is not processed in China would be a start.
In my locale, "regional offerings" means you can have jalapeno peppers, jalapeno relish, and extra-hot hot sauce on your apple pie.

Those fried were the best ever.

The real problem with Mcdonalds is their competitions food is better.
Competition did not cause them to improve what they made for years, instead they just come out with one crappy new product after another.
1977 was the last time I ate anything cooked in a BK. In the space of a month 8 people I know got food poisoning in 4 different BKs - I was one of those people, as was both my dad and my boyfriend.
Fry the apple pies again too. I ordered one in Stockholm last year and, lo and behold, it was still fried and pretty affordable by Swedish standards. My kids were popping down there every other day for them.
I get to fly into Ebola Central, DFW, in 2 weeks for a conference in Tyler... I have been deprived of What-A-Burger for far, far too long. It’s been over a year, but I recognized the cup in that picture right away!
Oddly, I REALLY like their plain Garden Salads... good greens, fresh shredded cheese... cherry tomatoes. I pass on the dressing and just pick at it like a relish tray while driving.
A Poblano is Hell.
The best peppers on earth as far as I am concerned. Just enough kick without all the unfortunate after effects.
LOL, I can see the days the touchscreens protest!
Julia Child said the McD tallow fries were THE best French fries.
