A noir classic this week. Edmond O'Brien is one of my favorite old-time actors, and he's quite good in this one.

7.5/10

I too liked the movie. And I agree with you about Edmond O’Brien (another victim of Alzheimer’s).

Always enjoyed this film. Among other aspects - the fact that much of it was shot on location in SF in 1949. You got to see a lot of that city that was completely gone by the 80’s.

The only part that could be dropped was the catcalls in the soundtrack when O’Brien’s character is in the hotel during “fashion week” or whatever the convention was. That is just a bizarre addition to an otherwise good piece of noir.

Different movie, but great performance by O'Brien in 1969.

Watched “Khartoum” on TCM - way back in 1880 a megalomaniac wishing to spread Islam throughout the mideast until he could worship in the mosques in Cairo and Constantinople laid siege to Sudan Khartoum, murdering a remaining small group of Egyptians and Englishmen led by British General Gordon - because they were infidels they had to die - it’s been going on for hundreds of years, but dunces like Obama and the left just can’t seem to ubderstand what it’s all about.....

I can’t understand how Edmond O’Brien got to be a movie star. IMHO, he sucks.

I hadn’t known about the Alzheimer’s. That’s quite sad. IIRC, there was a famous actress from the 1950’s who developed Alzheimer’s very early on - initial symptoms in her 30’s - that cut her career short.

I was going to mention The Wild Bunch in my OP. I’m a huge Sam Peckinpah fan, and O’Brien is great as the crazy old coot. In fact, the first time I watched the film I didn’t even realize it was O’Brien, he was “submerged” into the part.
