In my opinion, it's a direct result of the stultifying presence of GOP-e bots and the doom and gloom brigade. Folks with better minds get turned off and stay away.

Interesting. The Internet has, in a very anonymous way, allowed you as a person to make a difference in someone else’s life. You don’t know me from Adam, but...my outlook as a citizen has been shaped in a perceptible way by you and others like you.
I know everything has a duality to it...nearly everything can be used for a good or evil purpose. So it is with the Internet which often seems to be filled with porn and cat videos (as another Freeper reminded us on this thread!)
But one of the great things about the Internet is that someone like you may be able to interact in a positive way with a greater number of people than was ever before possible. And that is a pretty cool thing.
If it continues too much longer, this place will become unrecognizable.

It is one of the main reasons that the fundraising goes on for so long.
The less than competent admins over the last 16 years that I've been here (under 3 names, not by choice) have chased off many younger, dynamic and creative Freepers, and FR is the poorer for it.
Can't put my finger on it. Ignorance? Evangelical extremists? Trolls? Bible thumping dogmatics? Not very constructive, whatever the case.
Billthedrill and I are working to turn those threads about the 85 Federalist Papers and 35 Anti-Federalist Papers into a book. We’ve been at it for a year, and it will probably take another year to whip it into shape for publication.

LOL...It wasn’t too long ago that I offered my seat on a train to an older woman. She looked at me like I had three heads. There was something about that, that bothered me. It seemed to represent a lot of things.
We’ll know for certain where we are headed if the Republicans win the election and everything stays the same. I can’t think of a single reason for so many federal agencies to have armed officers or tiny towns to have militarized SWAT Teams and MRAP vehicles unless they have intentions of doing harm to the citizens.
That's one of the worst-kept secrets in this community.

I knew I’d joined just before the election of 2000, so I checked & it was Oct. 3rd, 2000. So I just reached 14 years on FR, on Friday!
I'm falling victim to Re-lurk Syndrome myself. I don't post half as much as I used to. The verve, and spit-in-their-eye attitude, seems to have gone out of the forum over the last several years.
In my mind (at least) the cause is that the forum has been overrun with negative nancys and doom and gloomers, not to mention GOP-e bots galore.
What the hell is a patriot supposed to do when they've got free run of the place?
