Restaurant Impossible Goes To Fort Bragg (Vanity)

Posted on 09/17/2014 10:21:54 PM PDT by goldstategop

This is one of Chef Robert Irvine's best episodes of "Restaurant Impossible."

Its hard not to get choked up over him saving the "Green Beret Club" in Ft. Bragg, Georgia.

I have a lot of respect for those who serve our country and those who feed them.

Not to be missed!

I *saw him do this at 29 Palms for a battalion of Marine infantry that were coming off Mojave Viper live fire training.

He did a damn fine job of it too.

*By saw, I mean, on TV not in person.

He’s worked with Gary Sinese to aid military families.

He was born in England, joined the Royal Navy and became a self-taught cook. Never went to culinary school.

The club in the episode was renamed the “Smoke Bomb Grille.”

Its worth seeing for Irvine’s jump with the 82nd Airborne and PT with the Red Falcons.

He does a fantastic job with every failing restaurant.
It is just not the restaurant operation, but also the
psychology of owners and workers...he is masterful.

With a shoestring budget of $10,000 and two days... Irvine achieves amazing results.

Of course, in the end owners and staff need enthusiasm, perseverance and dedication. The restaurant business is not for the indifferent or faint of heart.

It shows up in your attitude, in your food and in taking care of your customers. There’s really no secret to running a successful restaurant.

Its what you put into it.

Ft. Bragg is in North Carolina... i lived down the street from it for about 16 months, until a few weeks ago...

i know that Georgia has Ft. Benning... i went to a US Army graduation there last year...

Sorry for the mix up!

Just out of curiosity, have you been to the Smoke Bomb Grille or before they did the makeover there?

Ah, one of my favorites on the Food Network.

I do like Chef Robert, he’s been pretty successful on the other shows he’s been on, like Iron Chef,

The other chefs are in awe about his arms. The man is in excellent shape.

My favorite episode of Restaurant Impossible was his wedding episode. It was nice to see his soft side.

In the end they made him go to school like they did to Alton.

If you mean Alton Brown.... his “Cuttthroat Kitchen” is wickedly funny.

You can bid on gadgets to sabotage your competition. Learning how to cook food takes no great skill.

Just lots of practice and experimenting with ingredients and learning how to plate food.

Prep work is the most important element to being a good cook...

Plating is an art...it's my weakest area..

Haven’t watched TV in many years, but that one might be worth watching.

I remember back in the early 90s, watching Alton Brown, Mario Batali, Emeril and others; haven’t seen it at all for the past 10-15yrs.
