This morning as I was trying to catch up on my email (I get a massive amount of email each month, last month over 3,000), I opened a great one from John W. In a nutshell John, is new to prepping and hasnt really done anything prep-wise yet, but he has been thinking and making plans.
John said that he has his home on two acres paid-off, and that he has a job and works to support his wife and two children (one 6 and the other 9 years old). He said that he knows from all of the news and the tell-tell signs that something big is coming, and that his main fear is a total economic collapse.
He said that he has $10,000 to spend on preps and that he wanted to be ready as quickly as possible, without all of the buying a can of food here and another can another day or a few extra cans each time he goes to the grocery store. He also insists on long-term storage foods, with a shelf-life of 25 years or more, because he doesnt want to be bothered with all of the rotating and other stuff involved when stockpiling perishable foods.

My favorite so far with the dehydrator was my tomatoes. They took a long time but I blended them into a powder once they were good and try. They take up very little space this way and a couple of tablespoons really add a wonderful flavor to soups/stews. I don't have any of the mats yet so haven't tried the fruit leather or anything like that.
Has anyone tried to dehydrate scrambled eggs? We have plenty of eggs from the chickens and thought I might give it a whirl soon.

The vegetable oil, corn, soybean, canola is bad when it is fresh. Use coconut oil!
I haven’t tried eggs yet, that’s something that could be really tricky and could harbor some bad bacteria, if not done correctly. I’d want to get a recipe from a reliable source before I did it.
My dehydrator didn’t have and trays for fruit leather, so I used parchment paper and spraye a little EVOO on it to prevent sticking. Worked ok.
Cleaning out the kids' rooms when they moved out was when I finally had the light bulb moment. I tend to keep stuff but it was cleaning out the kids' rooms when they moved out that I had the light bulb moment. Now, it's keeping stuff that has a second life in prepping. Self, hey, Lil Miss' old snow suit might come in handy one day if there's no heat. Keep those flintknapping tools to sharpen that flint in Jr.'s rock collection. Those old how to books, well, duhhhhh!

LOL! Hang in there!
