The Penn State Nittany Lions are eligible to play in a bowl game this season after the NCAA ruled they are satisfied with the athletic departments progress in ensuring it functions with integrity.
Penn States commitment to the integrity of its athletics department and its progress toward meeting the requirements of the Consent Decree are clear, said Northern Arizona President Rita Hartung Cheng via NCAA.org, who chaired Mondays Executive Committee meeting. We thank Senator Mitchell for his meticulous and exhaustive work over the past two years. Mitchells efforts and the dedication of Penn State officials made todays decisions possible.
Penn State was given scholarship reductions and banned from postseason play after the Joe Sandusky sex abuse scandal that rocked Happy Valley and college athletics that resulted in Joe Paterno being removed as the head coach and swift and severe penalties being handed down.
The university had to pay a $60 million fine, was banned from postseason play for four years and vacated its 112 wins from 1998-2011. The Nittany Lions also had to lose 10 initial scholarships for four years beginning in 2013-14 and will drop its total number of scholarships from 85 to 65 for four years beginning in 2014-15 and was placed on probation for five years.
A reduction in the penalties was announced in 2013 that allowed the Nittany Lions to have 75 scholarships in 2014, 80 in 2015 and the full allotment of 85 in 2016.
This is a significant victory for the university, first-year head coach James Franklin and the football team that will no longer be punished for the crimes and misdoings of others.
Penn State is off to a 2-0 start and has one of the best quarterbacks in college in Christian Hackenberg and is almost assured of reaching the six wins to be eligible for a bowl game.
and jerry sandusky’s book “touched” is going for 48$ used on amazon

The worship continues.
No, that’s JERRY Sandusky...Joe Sandusky is named in the article.
Yes!
He was the meme created by the media to convict everyone in Pa. of Sandusky’s crimes.
“No, thats JERRY Sandusky...Joe Sandusky is named in the article.”
Joe Paterno, Jerry Sandusky ... it is just all too confusing .....
“He was the meme created by the media to convict everyone in Pa. of Sanduskys crimes.”
Not everyone. I think there were a more in the actual sex ring that never got charged.
Corman countered with not so fast - what about this consent decree?
...I take it you missed the part where Corman admits this action preepts a broader court hearing against the sanctions themselves...he’s chagrined, but he knows he has no position to present it in court...
Mitchell is irrelevant
...actually, Corman is now irrelevant as well...
As to the administration? They WROTE the consent decree. They VOLUNTEERED for these sanctions.
...are you seriously suggesting that the alumni were not aware that PSU volunteered for these sanctions...? and furthermore, are you suggesting that if PSU had not volunteered and thus received the death penalty, the alumni would be much more pleased with that...?
...and finally, why should alumni pleasure even enter into this discussion...?
I’m ok with this. The sanctions just punished those who are trying to turn things around.
Joe Pa is not coming back, and Sandusky is in jail.
Spainer is still a big shot in Democrat politics and his wife is still a tenured professor of sexology (or some similar stupid field) there carrying on the work of transforming PSU into a fortress for the gay mafia.
And nobody will even ask about it because Penn State football took the blame.
The Judge would have gone forward (imo). Corman was just sucking up with that statement. The Judge had a real problem with the CD.
PSU has nearly 700K alumni - most of them have NO IDEA about any of this stuff. Anyone who has followed certainly does, but they are in the minority.
Peetz/Frazier/Surma/Erickson/etc. did more damage to the University than a former employee ever could. If that came out in black and white - in court, donations and research money would be affected (all they care about).
It wasn't like every boy in Pennsylvania was raped at Penn State - just a smattering.
I hear that Penn State is hoping to be invited to the Chuck E. Cheese Bowl.
In case you hadn’t heard, Joe Paterno didn’t commit a crime. He didn’t witness a crime.
He reported a second hand vague reference to a possible crime to his superiors.
The ncaa just 2 weeks ago released a massive manual on campuses reporting sexual crimes. The manual says to do exactly what Joe Paterno did - every step of the way.
Hate on with your childish little pictures.
Joe Paterno applauds from hell.
Go Sue Go!
Excellent point.
Lets put it this way. If Cormans suit would have gone forward, Emmert, Freeh, Erickson, Surma, Peetz, Frazier, and countless others would have finally been under oath.
None of them wanted anything to do with that. Corman settled for sanction relief.
...sigh...none of what you just posted there has any truth to it...Corman’s suit was never going to go further, and he knows it...and you do as well...
Sues lawsuit will take care of the wins.
...you are aware that the Paternos can only sue the NCAA as third party plaintiffs, citing financial setbacks due to the vacated victories...how do you propose they do that...? Was Jay Paterno going to get a head coaching position somewhere that was quashed by this...?
...but like I said, maybe the 1999-2001 victories will be restored, which clearly never should have been vacated in the first place...
Bye bye JoePa....you enabled evil. I hope they melt the statue down.
