EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The St. Louis Rams released defensive end Michael Sam on Saturday, according to multiple league sources.

Sam's efforts to become the first openly gay player in NFL history came up just short in a competition against undrafted rookie Ethan Westbrooks.

Westbrooks is one of nine defensive linemen to land a roster spot.

Sam officially hit waivers Saturday at 4 p.m. ET when all NFL teams had to trim their rosters down to the league-mandated 53 players. From there, the other 31 teams will have 24 hours to put in a claim for Sam.

Why is it yours or anyone's concern what goes on between adults in their private life?

And yes, some gays are pedophiles and should be treated as such with the full force of the law. But I think more pedophilia occurs by straight men on little girls. I don't think it's a "gay" thing.

Risky move by Rams. He’ll sue their ass and tie them up in court.

Sue them for what...sexual discrimination ???

How exactly are his lawyers going to prove that ?

He was released for his on-field performance, not for being a faggot..

The crime of sodomy is anti-American and anti-God. I have zero tolerance for homosexualism in all forms. It's an unspeakable evil that attempts to erode the Biblical foundation of America.

Sodomites can be transformed with a God-centered redemptive therapy. But they first must genuinely repent of that abomination and sin no more.

If he does sue, for what?...exactly...he will be doing a great disservice to gay football players coming up. If drafting a gay football player potentially exposes you to some lawsuit, who in their right mind would do so?

He'll need to get that taken care of, pronto. Things can get in the bloodstream.

I am so glad that he [Jefferson] did not support punishment for suicide.

Well Clarence Oddbody, AS2, did make it clear that suicide was against the law where he came from.

He was going to do some show on the Oprah network. He will probably do that now.

Probably better for him. He’ll be more likely to get playing time with a team that isn’t as well set at D-line as the Rams.

Or college football analyst on one of the networks.

I’m very surprised he got cut, I figured they’d keep him on for a season and quietly drop him if he wasn’t useful on special teams.

I know he’s slow (4.91 40 at the combine), so that is a handicap for a special teams player.

Given how many teams are lacking on the defensive line, I’d say that he has a pretty good chance of being offered a spot somewhere else. He did put in a good performance in the games he played.

He did put in a good performance in the games he played.

But he didn't do well on special teams, and that was why he didn't make the team. You have to at least be able to play special teams, if you're projected as a 2nd or 3rd stringer.
