Late 1960s: Economy Class Seating on a Pan-Am 747
The 1960's were barely done when Pan Am again set a standard the rest of the world was forced to follow. Pan American's Boeing B-747 Jumbo Jets brought down the cost of long distance air travel once again.

That would have to be late late 60’s. The first flight of a 747 was 1969.

If you didn’t live through those times, you don’t ever want to read an in-flight menu or see photos of the food on a flight like that.

Even as late as the 80s flying was a comfortable experience. I flew in a Piedmont L1011 that was quite enjoyable!

I was a flight attendant with TWA in the early 1960’s and really miss those days. Most noticeable from the PAN-AM pic, other than the spaciousness, is the presence of real food, people who dressed up to fly and the absence of anything electronic. People actually talked to one another back then during a flight, rather than staring mindlessly at some electronic device. Nice to see reminders of more pleasant times. Thanks for sharing.

I can’t remember the dates but in the early 1970’s I would on an airline that had a standup bar and lounge in the aft section. A “stew” would pour the drinks. Those were the days!

My dad caught one of the first Pan Am 707 flights, Tokyo to San Francisco in the late 50s. The 707 is still with us in a military tanker...
