Well, this is certainly concerning to me, from your link:

“ During boarding formalities for his return trip to Accra, at the international terminal of MMA, Mr. Osei, who had obviously become weak at this time, was subjected to Ebola Virus test by port health officials, the result of which was negative. No further attention was paid to him after his Ebola Virus result read negative but the passenger later slumped and died around the port health office.

So this passenger was waiting for his "yellow card" to fly out, but became very ill. They cleared him when his field test came up negative. Then he drops dead waiting for his flight. Then his body just laid there, waiting for someone to pick it up.

Dear Lord...

This is quite alarming to me. And of course, this leads me to the obvious-- how often are these tests, these on-the-spot tests, false negatives? And what do these tests consist of.. taking the temperature and? The guy was obviously very sick, why would he be cleared for continual travel? This clearly warranted further testing. And a really frightening thought is, how often is this happening?

Yeah.

I have to wonder how often these negatives are really positives that just haven’t happened yet.

That makes 2 of us.

Nigeria has no immediate interest in playing up the numbers. They don’t need the WHO money, they have oil money. But if the cat gets out of the bag, lots of western workers/business people will leave. That will hurt.

I think they’re hoping for the best.

OMg.

From your link:
http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/04/nigerian-labs-cant-detect-ebola/

He said, “We do not have any laboratory or facility in the country that can even diagnose Ebola, which also bears similarities with other haemorrhagic fevers like Lassa and Dengue.

Then how, pray tell, are your patients testing negative?? Am I missing something here?

Precisely my question.

This won’t end well.

Yes, I think that is it. I just hope the tests are accurate.

I believe they are lacking the capability to differentially diagnose Ebola from other HF; could be wrong but I doubt it.

I believe we will reach the point (if we haven’t already) where fear of economic repercussions will outweigh medical prudence. These are poor countries, and even the wealthiest depend on trade with the West for technical expertise (Liberia and Nigeria with oil, for instance). Shutting down, even for a short time, will have tremendous economic impact.

I think that’s one reason that things have gotten so out of hand in WA. They have been reluctant to quarantine and enforce borders. For monetary reasons. It will get worse before it gets better.
