Wikimedia, the non-profit organisation behind Wikipedia, has refused a photographers repeated requests to stop distributing his most famous shot for free because a monkey pressed the shutter button and should own the copyright[.]

As that is part of their rebellion against the God of the Bible, which created nature to serve man, thus it needs us not (unlike the earth worm), except to tame for better productively.
Thus we feed ourselves by so caring for it.
But besides the Romans 1 aspect of making animals equal to humans, the WP reasoning means if someone painted a picture using equipment he was not authorized to use, and the owner preserved it and displayed it, then the thief owns the copyright.
“I really needs to be said? Monkeys are not people. They cannot own stuff.”
Correct.
“The copyright belongs to the photographer.”
Incorrect, or rather, inaccurate. Technically, there was no “photographer” for this photograph, as it was taken without human intervention. Therefore, it’s not possible to copyright it.
Conversely, who gave the photographer the power to decide he owns a photograph that he didn’t take?
Just because someone asserts a copyright doesn’t mean you have to agree with them and comply.
So, as a photographer, I do not own the copyright to any of the photos hat I make through remote triggers or timed shutters.
The photographer placed the camera in the position. It was his equipment and the image was made at his intent.
The argument made is just silly in an attempt to hijack his property rights.
Some bad news, sorry. One of the trees you photographed just hired a lawyer.
I doubt you driver's license looks better than that........I see you trimmed your eyebrows
...even the damn monkeys take better pictures than me.
Must be an oak, they're just too greedy.
He should simply say he’s the monkey’s agent.
That’s eye “brow” (singular). I was going for the Frida Kahlo look.

Yeah, but the maples would’ve made him join the union first.
“My monkee and I have an agreement. He doesn’t tell me what kind of pictures to take, and I don’t tell him how much to charge.”
All kidding aside, that is a very nice photo........notice the perfect alignment of the teeth..........
Monkeys have orthodontic coverage?

I hate monkeys. Nothing cute about the filthy little beasts.
I mount cameras behind basketball hoops. Talk about 1 good photo out of a thousand...
The tree photo and ground photos are nothing.
LOL.
They need to pay the photographer. It’s not honorable for them to try and slither out of doing what’s right.
