I don't watch TV much these days, so I can't say what have been popular miniseries in the past decade or so, but I remember there used to be big budget miniseries on TV all the time (A.D., The Winds of War, Roots. Etc). In your opinion, what were the greatest miniseries of all time?
Band of Brothers
Back in the late 70s, Rock Hudson and Blair Brown (very hot back then) were in a series called “Wheels”. A fascinating expose on the auto industry. I thought it was very good.
I’ve watched this several times. I think the music theme is one of the best I’ve ever heard.
I agree. Jesus of Nazareth is fantastic.
A miniseries has more than 2 and usually 13 or fewer espisodes, plus it has a predetermined ending. So a lot of the current cable series being mentioned are not miniseries.

Same observation I’ve had in reading the postings. Seems most posters don’t know the difference between a regular TV series and a mini-series of only a few episodes that usually deals with historical subject matter.
I say again, that “America”, narrated by Alstaire Cook was a great mini-series that covered the history of this country up to that point in the 1970s in a thorough way.
I, CLAUDIUS is one of my favorites. A classic.
Flame Trees of Thika
Did not see Testament of Youth. Looks interesting.
Other war series that I liked were Island at War (a British television series that tells the story of the German Occupation of the Channel Islands) and Wish Me Luck (a bit hokey, but interesting).
The Forsythe Saga was excellent.
I like The Paradise (similar to Selfridge’s).
The Bletchley Circle, now on PBS, is very good. And the new Sherlock Holmes is great.
Broadchurch with David Tennant didn’t get a lot of attention, but it was very well done-rather dark.
I liked, Rich man poor man.
2nd that
+1.
“Once an Eagle”, which was one of the first series I recall. “Band of Brothers” a close second.
Dr Who.
Band of Brothers
Centennial
Lonesome Dove
I would agree, though I would bet not fifty freepers even saw the mini-series when it aired. Made me want to visit Alice Springs! Shute had to have based that novel on folks from that town so the population has to be my kind of people.
James Burke’s “Connections”
The Wire. 5 seasons of excellence.
