PARIS - A 76-year-old Frenchman has gone on trial for taking justice into his own hands after a decades-long mission to avenge his daughter's death.
Andre Bamberski is accused of ordering the kidnapping five years ago in Germany of retired doctor Dieter Krombach, who was tied up and dumped near a French courthouse to face charges in the 1982 death of Bamberski's 15-year-old daughter, Kalinka. Krombach was the girl's stepfather.

I’d say the doctor is in deep doo-doo, and kudos to the restraint shown by the French father, for not exacting natural justice.
Sounds like the plot to a Jason Statham movie.

Give him less time in prison (if he’s imprisoned at all) than the doctor got for the OTHER girl he drugged and raped!!

I don't understand how you can get a slap on the wrist for such a crime. I can understand some leniency because he confessed, but to serve no jail time is criminal.
Does anybody understand the German mindset that considers rape so lightly?
The only thing good I can say about the doctor is that he learned between 1982 and 1997 how to administer the drug without killing the girl.
He was probably going to torture him. No reason to keep him alive otherwise.
Similar to my thoughts... need an example of the difference between Western and Muslim civilization? The rule of law is either important or it isn’t. No honor killing here, simply a demand that a court do its job.
And he acted in a manner which I happen to support. I think things have gotten too cerebral. Too much paperwork. Too easy to pass the buck on down the line. I’ve been reading David Bromwich’s new biography of Edmund Burke. Struck by how George III was using cushy-job-well-paying-ministries-positions to compromise the establishment and keep Parliament on the defensive. Sounds all too familiar.
I believe in the Law until it interferes with Justice.
These are the kinds of things that can happen when the legal system is corrupt. If it’s a jury trial, he walks. If it’s a star chamber, he goes to prison. I don’t know how it works in the EU, but I’d bet dollars to doughnut holes it is a star chamber.
I think a lot of it depends upon how much money you have to "redistribute." Pretty much like here in the US of A.
I was trying to remember the French criminal justice system. I believe judges are much more prominent there, than juries, but I can’t remember if that only relates to pretrial procedure or runs through the entire matter.

That means "the law" starts in our own hands; we then delegate the powers to implement it to the government.
To say "you can't take the law into your own hands" makes no more sense than to say "If you've hired someone to mow your lawn, and they don't do a good job, you can't take lawn-mowing into your own hands".
The Wiki page is confusing. In one line they say the girl’s stepfather was the German Doctor accused of killing her.
Elsewhere, this is contradicted, but never corrected.
The coroner’s report shows that the ‘girls’ genitals were removed and have never been found’. I didn’t know that was possible with a female without leaving a very conspicuous open cavity in the front of the body.
OMG...horrifying!
In Texas, we would sentence the doctor to death, and the girl’s dad would be ‘Father of the Year’.
