The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Apologies for the late hour. I was unexpectedly delayed by the Department of Labor. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED. Pain in the you know what and that's all I have to say.
We are getting a steady supply of produce. Had some corn, cukes, squash, beets, tomatoes, and green beans. Oh the beans out number everything else by far. Got another 7 quarts canned.
We now have enough Green Beans for 2 years of normal use in the pantry. Guess we'll be doubling our green bean consumption this year.
The amazing thing is the beans are still going strong. Hubby has decided he will let them go now, and harvest some dried beans from them later. We are all out of lettuce, so I'll need to try to get some more going.
Hope everyone is doing well. Apologies again for the being late in the day with kicking off the thread.
Pinging the list.

See to believe.
Warming up in Western Colorado! Tomatoes are on the vine, along with cukes and quite a few chile peppers have been picked so far (jalapenos and New Mexico green). I was concerned container gardening would fail me, so far it has not!
Greetings from Massachusetts! We had a beautiful day here, with low humidity, which was much appreciated. I envy you your bountiful crop of green beans, and will show you why in a few minutes!
Sorry about your encounter with the Dept of Labor earlier today.
Good Afternoon. I am wishing the “Son of the Polar Vortex” cools things down just a little here in Mississippi.
I am just now getting some nice red color on some of my tomatoes especially the San Marzanos.
(I’m not on the ping list but I’m reporting all the same.)
Checking in from NC — I’m working on a flower garden (in memory of my Mom). I’ve been battling leaf hoppers and mealy bugs for a few weeks. I’m feeling confident that the problems are almost licked. (Almost as I’m still finding leaf hoppers and mealy bugs but not in the great abundance of a few weeks ago.)
The one rose that was producing blooms was starting to look weird (curled petals and of a darker hue than the the flower itself). Botrytis, maybe?
Also have a tomato in a container whose little tomatoes were showing brown discolored bottoms. I took them off the plant. Hoping the next ones won’t be looking the same.

I’m seeing the brown discoloration on some of my tomatoes as well. What is that?
Sorry about your Department of Labor troubles..At first I thought that was a euphemism for your husband deciding to let the green beans go.
My garden is the same. tomatoes, trombettas, and cucuzza. I need to get hopping on starting seeds for fall. I’m already a couple of weeks behind on that.
Hubby had similar issues with his roma tomatoes. I had him treat them with bonemeal and epsom salts per directions on the package, and no problems since then.
I have some roses, but I really don’t know much about them, as I have concentrated on growing food, but hopefully some one else can discuss it.
Let me know if you would like to be on the list. Of course you are welcome to post anytime anyway.
Made some salsa yesterday out of my garden tomatoes. They are a lot juicier than store bought tomatoes but the taste is worth it.
I put a note in my file for next year to get some seeds for those type of tomatoes.
Not half as sorry as I am I bet.
Green Beans seems to be one of our most reliable crops. Peas not really. I like the beans better anyway.LOL
Will do and welcome. I usually post around 2pm each Friday, and we keep the thread going during the week.
This is what he did a couple of days ago to our purple velour beans:
He also ate all of the blossoms from two containers of petunias, and did some damage to the greens on our radishes! The above container has now been moved from the patio out front, onto the railing of our deck out back.
You beat me to it. I posted this and some others down thread.LOL
See my post 11 downthread. Most likely it is blossum end rot.
This is the first time we’ve ever grown green beans. They seem sturdy and vigorous so far, if we can just keep the whistlepig away.
