A cellphone video emerged this weekend of a California cop appearing to brutally beat a woman for no discernible reason on the side of a highway.
CBS Los Angeles reports that the video, filmed on Tuesday evening, depicts a California Highway Patrol officer angrily crossing the La Brea Freeway, yanking a barefooted woman down, and punching her “more than 11 times in the face.”
As of now, the CHP says that it is investigating the incident, but said in a statement that “since there is an ongoing investigation, it would be premature to comment on this specific video segment without reviewing the entire incident.” They also took the woman, who lacked identification, to a hospital for a physical and mental evaluation once she was in custody.

She was on a metropolitan freeway in the middle of the day, for crying out loud. He had to stop her. Period. Right then.
She wasn’t injured.
At least that is what I understood.

He stopped her. And she was not injured.
Could have turned out a lot worse.

The cop is on top of an unarmed woman, straddling her and attempting to hit her with knock out blows on the pavement......

Although I agree with you on the race card bit. This is just basically a Thug with a badge that belongs in prison.

So true. The cop could have beaten the living snot out of her then tazed her, shot her and thrown her into oncoming traffic. Its a good thing he showed restraint and only beat the snot out of her. I’m sure she’s back to normal today without a care in the world. I’ll bet she didn’t even get a bruise. This guy looks like he knows how to handle a woman.
Give me a break....She was resisting and had already been resisting. They are rolling around dangerous traffic lanes. If he doesn’t subdue her and she gets killed by a passing car they hang the cop for that. Oh and the commentary from the Obama voter was of course completely unbiased.

I don’t know if the cop used excessive force. She is from what I heard, uninjured.
It could have been a whole lot worse, for a lot of people. That is my big point. A metropolitan freeway is not someplace to be flitting around barefoot.
It just isn’t. Period.
He may have over-reacted, but he did it appears avoid injury to her, or to anyone else.

Like you I am shocked how anyone can even defend a police officer assaulting an unarmed woman to the point of killing her.
Think about it for a minute. The police office was straddling her on pavement and then trying to hit her with all his might. Everybody knows that is assault and could kill someone.
Yet we have freepers that defend this third world jack boot behavior.
She was taken for a 72 hour hold (section 5150 of the california health and safety code). According to the radio report at the time, she had been running in and out of traffic on the La Brea onramp of the 10 freeway. Which is basically suicide at rush hour. So that’s what the evaluation was for. They’ll adjust her meds and release her. She’ll stop taking her anti-psychotics, and maybe self-medicate, and some other cop will get the call, again, and have to figure out how to take her back to the psych ward, again. And the FReeper peanut gallery can have fun calling that next cop a ‘nazi’ or something similar, again.

For the record, I am not a cop hater. Your accusation is baseless slander, offensive, and a slap in the face to every good cop. Cops risk their lives every day by NOT indulging in the thuggery this cop PLAINLY did. Those cops are the ones you are hating by attacking their professionalism. Those cops are the ones you are hating by standing against their refusal to become Gestapo. And I find your hatred of good cops disgusting.
Yeh but you just aren’t looking at it correctly. The cop was pulling his punches so he really was just trying to subdue the woman for her own safety. Ya gotta knock a woman around a little to get her attention. She just wasn’t listening. Ya hit a woman in the face a few times and she starts to listen. :-)
